Rotary Perth’s much-loved Vienna Pops New Year’s Eve Concert is set to return to The University of Western Australia, promising an enchanting evening that blends musical excellence with a philanthropic heart. This year’s gala, scheduled for December 31, aims to raise substantial funds for two critical social and health initiatives.
The event, held in UWA’s iconic Winthrop Hall, is part of a longstanding partnership between UWA and Rotary Perth. Attendees will be treated to performances by world-class musical talent, with proceeds supporting the Salvation Army’s programs for women and children affected by domestic violence, as well as the establishment of the Barry Marshall Research Institute for Infectious Diseases.
Supporting Community and Health Initiatives
The concert is a key component of Rotary Perth’s centenary project, designed to honor Western Australia’s own Nobel Laureate, Professor Barry Marshall AC. The initiative aims to advance research that enhances community health and safeguards lives.
Jill Dawson OAM, President of Perth Rotary, emphasized the concert’s role in fostering community, culture, and philanthropy. “This year’s support for the planned Barry Marshall Research Institute for Infectious Diseases highlights the transformative power of philanthropy in supporting research that safeguards lives,” Mrs. Dawson stated.
“The Institute will honor the legacy of Professor Barry Marshall’s groundbreaking discovery of Helicobacter pylori while empowering new generations of researchers to tackle emerging infectious diseases,” she added.
Mrs. Dawson noted that the project reflects Rotary Perth’s commitment to improving community wellbeing and advancing research with a global reach.
