Comedian Urzila Carlson joins The Masked Singer Australia.
Comedian Urzila Carlson is set to bring her highly anticipated “You Don’t Say” tour to Perth next week, promising an evening of laughter and entertainment. The tour, which has been making waves across Australia and New Zealand, will make a stop at Perth’s HPC on August 29 and 30.
Carlson, originally from South Africa, has become a beloved figure in the comedy scene. She assures Perth audiences of an hour and a half filled with humor, stating, “You’re not going to learn anything or cry, but I just talk about stuff that has happened in the year, and, yeah, it’s a funny show, and people seem to love it, and I love it. I think it’s my favorite show that I’ve done so far.”
Unexpected Highlights and Fond Memories
One of the more unexpected highlights of Carlson’s current tour has been the number of bosoms she has signed. “I must say, this year, so far, I’ve signed more boobs than any other year in my entire career, maybe even accumulatively,” she humorously noted.
While signing body parts may not be on the agenda for her Perth performance, Carlson holds fond memories of Western Australia, particularly a visit to Rottnest Island. “I rode the bike all around, and a quokka came up to me, and I didn’t touch it like a Hemsworth. I just laid in the grass, and it came up, and it put its little nose against my nose,” she recalled.
Starstruck Moments and Film Success
Beyond her stand-up career, Carlson recently ventured into film, starring in the Netflix movie “Kinda Pregnant” alongside Amy Schumer. The film, produced by Adam Sandler, was a significant milestone for Carlson, who admitted to being “star-struck” upon meeting Sandler. “He’s really cool. He’s kind of quiet but he just came up to me and goes, ‘You’re really funny, buddy. You’re very funny,’” she shared.
“Kinda Pregnant was viewed 25.1 million times in its first week, making it the most-watched title on Netflix from February 3 to February 10 and the number one movie globally.”
Filming her first movie was an enjoyable experience for Carlson, who appreciated the camaraderie with fellow comedians. “We would just sit in the green room and crack each other up. Hardly anyone sat in their trailers,” she said.
Looking Ahead: Performances and Projects
With her first film under her belt, Carlson is gearing up for another significant performance at the Sydney Opera House on December 13. “Growing up in South Africa I knew very little about the outside world except for the basics, Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and the Opera House in Sydney,” she said. “The fact that I get to perform at one of those is one of the most iconic unreal feelings.”
In addition to her live performances, Carlson is working on two Australian-produced TV projects set to release early next year. She also plans to continue touring and appearing on her usual TV shows. “Unless I get a call from Adam Sandler or someone, then of course, I’ll go,” she joked.
Tickets for the “You Don’t Say” Perth shows on August 29 and 30 are still available, offering fans the chance to experience Carlson’s unique brand of humor firsthand.
