A Tasmanian company specializing in infrastructure protection from lightning strikes has been crowned the 2025 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year. Lightning Protection International (LPI) took the top honor at the 31st Tasmanian Export Awards held in Hobart, marking a significant achievement for the local business community.
The Huntingfield-based manufacturer, known for its innovative lightning protection, surge protection, and earthing systems, has expanded its reach to over 100 countries since its inception in 2002. This global presence underscores the company’s commitment to quality and scientific innovation.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs Guy Barnett highlighted the importance of the awards in showcasing Tasmania’s robust export capabilities.
“We know that our export sector is thriving with goods and service exports reaching $6.16 billion for 2023-24,” Barnett stated. “The awards showcase the impressive breadth of exporting capabilities in Tasmania, recognizing industries across multiple sectors including the creative arts, technology, advanced manufacturing, and food and beverages.”
Recognition Across Diverse Sectors
In addition to the top honor, LPI also secured the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials category award, sponsored by the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council. This recognition is a testament to the company’s dedication to maintaining high standards in its field.
This year’s awards attracted 56 submissions across 11 categories, highlighting the diversity and strength of Tasmania’s export sector. Among the winners were Geoneon in the Technologies category, Tasman Sea Salt in Agribusiness, Food and Beverage, and Three Warriors in Small Business. Notably, national celebrity Sonia Kruger called Three Warriors founder Corbin Halliday on speakerphone during the ceremony to express her pride in the tanning product company’s success.
Spotlight on Sustainability and Innovation
Other notable winners included ship manufacturer Incat, which received the Sustainability and Green Economy award, and Pasture.io, which won the Professional Services award. Tasmanian Seaweed Fertilisers was recognized as the Emerging Exporter, while Scootboot took home the e-Commerce award.
Archipelago Productions, the company behind the acclaimed Bay of Fires TV show, won the Creative Industries award, while Hai Loong Seafood was honored as the Regional Exporter. Each category winner will represent Tasmania at the national Export Awards in Canberra in November, further highlighting the state’s prowess on a larger stage.
Implications for the Tasmanian Economy
The success of these companies at the Tasmanian Export Awards underscores the potential for local businesses to compete and succeed on a global scale. As Minister Barnett noted,
“Helping more Tasmanian companies to export and share our high-quality products and services with the rest of the world will strengthen our economy and create more job opportunities for Tasmanians.”
This development follows a growing trend of Tasmanian businesses making their mark internationally, driven by innovation, quality, and a commitment to sustainability. The recognition at the awards not only boosts the profile of individual companies but also enhances the reputation of Tasmania as a hub for excellence in various industries.
As the winners prepare to compete at the national level, the spotlight remains on Tasmania’s ability to nurture and support businesses that contribute significantly to the state’s economy. The continued success of these exporters will likely inspire other local enterprises to pursue global opportunities, further enriching the economic landscape of the region.
