Sony has unveiled its latest innovation, the LinkBuds Clip, a unique set of clip-style open earbuds designed to keep the ear canal unobstructed while offering multiple listening modes. This announcement marks a significant step in personal audio technology, as Sony aims to blend immersive sound with situational awareness.

The LinkBuds Clip feature an “always-on” clip design that allows users to remain aware of their surroundings while enjoying music or other audio. According to Sony, this design is particularly beneficial for those on the move, whether commuting or engaging in outdoor activities like running.

Listening Modes and Features

Sony has integrated three distinct listening modes into the LinkBuds Clip, catering to various auditory environments. Users can switch between these modes with a simple tap on the earbuds.

Standard, Voice Boost, and Sound Leakage Reduction

The Standard mode is optimized for general listening, providing a balanced audio experience. For noisier environments such as train stations or crowded streets, the Voice Boost mode enhances vocal clarity. Meanwhile, the Sound Leakage Reduction mode is ideal for quieter settings, ensuring privacy by minimizing audio spill.

These modes are designed to enhance the user experience across different scenarios, making the LinkBuds Clip versatile for everyday use.

Design and Fit

The LinkBuds Clip boast a C-shaped design that sits comfortably on the ear without entering the ear canal. Sony describes this fitting approach as a combination of the main body and an upper band, offering a wide range of fit and stability. Removable fitting cushions are included to provide a tighter fit, particularly useful during vigorous activities.

Available in Black, Green, Violet, and Greige, the earbuds draw aesthetic inspiration from ear cuffs, emphasizing both style and comfort for all-day wear.

Advanced Audio and Call Quality

Equipped with DSEE upscaling and a customizable 10-band EQ via the Sony | Sound Connect app, the LinkBuds Clip promise a personalized listening experience. They also feature 360 Reality Audio and a Background Music Effect, the latter becoming available through a software update in March 2026.

For clear communication, the earbuds incorporate voice signal processing and a bone conduction sensor, alongside an AI-based noise reduction system. This technology aims to maintain voice intelligibility even in noisy environments.

Battery Life and Durability

With up to 37 hours of battery life when used with the charging case, the LinkBuds Clip are designed for extended use. The earbuds themselves provide nine hours of playback, with an additional 28 hours from the case. A quick charge feature offers up to one hour of use from just three minutes of charging.

The earbuds are rated IPX4 for water resistance, offering protection against splashes, although the sound and microphone holes are excluded. However, the charging case does not share this water-resistant feature.

Sony has also included a Multipoint Connection feature, allowing users to switch seamlessly between devices, further enhancing the earbuds’ versatility.

Environmental Considerations and Market Launch

In line with its commitment to sustainability, Sony has ensured that the LinkBuds Clip packaging is entirely plastic-free. This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce the environmental impact of its products.

The LinkBuds Clip will be available in Australia from late January 2026, priced at AUD $329.95. Sony’s strategic launch in Australia reflects a growing market for innovative audio solutions that prioritize both sound quality and environmental consciousness.

As Sony continues to push the boundaries of audio technology, the LinkBuds Clip represent a harmonious blend of innovation and practicality, catering to the needs of modern, active lifestyles.
