Sony has unveiled the LinkBuds Clip, a new set of clip-style open earbuds designed to keep the ear canal unobstructed while offering multiple listening modes. Announced this week, the LinkBuds Clip feature an innovative design aimed at allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings while enjoying music or other audio content.

The earbuds, which sit on the ear with an “always-on” clip design, are part of Sony’s broader strategy to cater to users who value situational awareness. According to Sony, the LinkBuds Clip are particularly suitable for everyday use and outdoor activities, such as commuting, running, and other sports.

Innovative Listening Modes

Sony has equipped the LinkBuds Clip with three distinct listening modes, which users can switch between by tapping the earbuds. The Standard mode is designed for general listening, while the Voice Boost mode is ideal for noisier environments like stations and crowded areas. For quieter spaces, the Sound Leakage Reduction mode helps users avoid disturbing others with their audio.

This development follows a growing trend in the audio industry to create products that adapt to various environments and user needs. By offering these modes, Sony aims to provide a versatile listening experience that aligns with different types of content, including podcasts and videos.

Design and Comfort

The LinkBuds Clip’s C-shaped design is a departure from traditional in-ear models, as it does not penetrate the ear canal. Instead, the design relies on a combination of the main body and an upper band to provide a wide fitting range and stability. Sony includes removable fitting cushions to allow users to adjust the fit for a more secure experience during outdoor activities.

Weight and comfort have also been prioritized. The earbuds are lightweight and designed for all-day wear, available in Black, Green, Violet, and Greige colors, drawing inspiration from ear cuffs. This aesthetic choice reflects Sony’s commitment to combining functionality with style.

Advanced Audio Features

The LinkBuds Clip come with a host of audio features, including DSEE upscaling and a customizable 10-band EQ through the Sony | Sound Connect app. Sony has also integrated 360 Reality Audio for a personalized listening experience, with a Background Music Effect feature set to launch after a software update in March 2026.

Despite the open design, Sony promises detailed sound and vocal clarity, ensuring that the earbuds deliver a high-quality audio experience. The inclusion of voice signal processing and voice pickup technology further enhances call quality, with a bone conduction sensor and AI-based noise reduction system working together to maintain voice intelligibility in noisy settings.

Battery Life and Durability

Sony claims the LinkBuds Clip offer up to 37 hours of battery life when used with the charging case, broken down into nine hours from the earbuds and an additional 28 hours from the case. The earbuds also support a quick charge feature, providing up to one hour of use from just three minutes of charging.

Durability is another key aspect, with the earbuds boasting an IPX4 water resistance rating, offering protection against splashes. However, the charging case is not water-resistant. The earbuds also support Multipoint Connection for seamless switching between devices, alongside customizable sound settings via the Sony | Sound Connect app.

Environmental Considerations and Market Availability

In line with Sony’s commitment to reducing environmental impact, the LinkBuds Clip packaging is made entirely without plastic. This move is part of a broader effort by the company to adopt more sustainable practices across its product lines.

LinkBuds Clip will be available in Australia starting late January 2026, with a recommended retail price of AUD $329.95. This launch represents Sony’s latest effort to capture the attention of consumers seeking innovative audio solutions that blend technology with environmental consciousness.

As the market for wireless earbuds continues to grow, Sony’s introduction of the LinkBuds Clip positions the company to meet the evolving demands of consumers who prioritize both audio quality and situational awareness.
