A ration card is an essential legal document that is given by the Government of India to its citizens. Ration distribution is based on the information entered in this card. The information in the ration card is also used to benefit from government schemes. It is one of the legally recognized identities and residential address proof documents.
The names of all the members of the family are included in the ration card, and as one’s family grows, it is necessary to add the names of new members to the ration card. When a family grows after marriage, or a child is born or adopted in the house, then you have to add the name on the ration card.
Let us tell you how.
Add the name of a new member after marriage
If a daughter-in-law comes to the house after getting married, then the Aadhaar card has to be updated. For this, the girl will have to enter her husband’s name instead of the father’s name in her Aadhaar card. She will have to get the address updated as well.
After updating the Aadhaar card, along with the copy of the revised Aadhaar card, you will have to send an application to add the name, to the Food Department Officer.
How can one add the name of the child to the ration card?
If a child is born or adopted, then to register his/her name in the ration card, they will have to get the Aadhaar card made. Without the Aadhar card, their name will not be added to the ration card. The birth certificate of the child will be required to get the Aadhaar card.
After collecting all the required documents, you can apply to add your child’s name to the ration card.
Add the name of the new member online
You can also add the name of the new member online. For that, you have to go to the official website of the food supply of your state. There you will get all the options including adding the name of the new member, provided the government of your state gives an online facility to do so.
To get this online service in Uttar Pradesh, one has to visit https://fcs.up.gov.in/FoodPortal.aspx.
