On his first attempt, Neeraj Chopra launched the Monday night final with a foul throw. But after a little period of recovery, he made the best throw of the tournament on his second try. He put in an excellent effort in his second throw, extending his advantage on the table with an amazing distance of 88.17m. With Chopra’s victory, an Indian won the gold medal for the first time ever in the World Athletics Championships. Second place went to Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem (87.82m), while third place went to the Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch (86.67m).┬а
He now has a gold medal from the World Athletics Championship to add to his impressive collection of medals. According to current data, his 2022 silver medal was India’s sole other medal from the World Athletics Championship, surpassing Anju Bobby George’s bronze in the women’s long jump in 2003 in Paris. Chopra has now qualified for the upcoming Olympics in Paris next year. If he continues like this, he can bring another medal to India, as he is currently ranked first in the world.
