Khufiya trailer: RAW agent Tabu hunts ‘deshdrohi’ Ali Fazal in Vishal Bhardwaj’s spy thriller, fans call it masterpiece
The trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s spy thriller Khufiya, starring Tabu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi, is out now.
The trailer for Vishal Bhardwaj’s upcoming spy thriller Khufiya was unveiled on Monday morning. The film, which stars Tabu and Ali Fazal in the lead roles, is set to premiere on Netflix next month. The intense traler, based on a real-life case, has fans praising the film’s tone as well as the performers’ chemistry.
The trailer begings with agents at intelligence agency R&AW talking about a possible leak. Tabu enters the fray, investigating who could be the mole and their prime suspect is one of their own, played by Ali Fazal. The agents begin spying on him, monitoring each and every aspect of his life, including his wife (Wamiqa Gabbi). But is he really a ‘deshdrohi’ as the world believes or is there something more sinister afoot? That, the trailer lets you ponder on.
Reacting to the trailer, one fan wrote, “What a masterpiece it will be.” Another added, “If Vishal Bhardwaj has made it, it will always be good.” Many fans of the director said they were eagerly awaiting the back-to-back release of two his projects. A week before Khufiya, his maiden web series Charlie Chopra releases on Sony Liv.
Talking about Khufiya, the director said, “I have always been very fascinated with the world of espionage and am truly excited to explore this genre with Khufiya. This film gave me a chance to reunite with Tabu, and work for the very first time with two very talented actors- Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi. It also marks my first creative collaboration with Netflix which has been both exciting and rewarding. I cannot wait to share this thrilling and powerful story with Netflix’s audiences across 190 countries.”
Tabu added, “I am so happy to be once again working with my favorite director Vishal Bhardwaj as we reunite for the third time after Haider and Maqbool. Vishal’s unique vision and storytelling have always intrigued me, and Khufiya is no exception.”
Based on the book Escape to Nowhere, written by the former Chief of the Counter Espionage Unit of R&AW, Amar Bhushan, the film also stars Ashish Vidyarthi and Azmeri Haque Badhon. It will begin streaming on Netflix from October 5.
