Located approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Sydney, Oran Park has long been synonymous with speedway racing since 1962. However, with the encroachment of housing developments in the early 2000s, a new demand emerged from suburban residents for diverse entertainment options. This demand has been met with the opening of the Oran Park Hotel, a state-of-the-art entertainment venue that replaces the roar of engines with the rhythm of live music and ambient soundscapes.
The newly constructed Oran Park Hotel, developed by Momento Hospitality, represents a significant investment of nearly AU$60 million, claiming the title of Australia’s largest pub entertainment venue. Designed by Sydney-based Archebiosis Architects in collaboration with Greenfields Development Company, the complex spans three levels and features seven bars, multiple dining options, and a variety of entertainment facilities.
From Racing Legacy to Modern Entertainment Hub
The Oran Park Hotel’s design pays homage to its motorsport heritage while embracing modern entertainment needs. The venue includes a hand-painted racing mural in the Sports Bar, celebrating the area’s storied past. A native Australian bottle tree in the central atrium serves as the venue’s heart, with natural light filtering through the glazed roof, creating an inviting atmosphere.
The expansive 7,500 square meter precinct offers a diverse range of attractions, including the Grand Ballroom, two boutique cinemas, an indoor play area, and a garden atrium. The venue’s multiple food outlets, such as the all-day dining Bistro, Sports Bar, Papi’s pizzeria, and an Asia-inspired rooftop bar, cater to a growing membership from the Macarthur region.
Advanced Audio-Visual Experience
Vestec Electro, a systems integrator, was tasked with implementing the venue’s advanced audio-visual infrastructure. Under the project management of Mark Versic and Neville Hanna, the installation features Q-SYS Core technology for comprehensive AV control and monitoring. The system utilizes a range of QSC products, including CX-Q Series amplifiers and Core 110f processors, managed via Q-SYS touchscreens and interfaces.
“One of our philosophies is to make functionality simpler for operators,” says Salvatore Bellamo, general manager of Momento Hospitality. “Here, the ease of audio management is dictated by the capabilities of the IP and Q-SYS.”
The AV system’s sophistication allows for seamless transitions between various audio modes, such as DJ and background music, with the push of a button. This flexibility is crucial for maintaining the venue’s dynamic atmosphere.
Integration and Innovation
The Oran Park Hotel’s audio-visual system extends beyond traditional setups, incorporating cutting-edge technology to enhance visitor experiences. The AVoIP system includes a centralised subscription server that provides zoned music over a controlled network. Audio-Technica ambient microphones automatically adjust sound levels in higher-occupancy rooms, ensuring optimal audio quality throughout the venue.
In the Sports Bar, Martin Audio enclosures and subwoofers deliver high-quality sound for both live music and sporting events. The venue’s design, featuring terracotta ceilings and terrazzo flooring, required careful acoustic management, achieved through Martin Audio’s Display 3 prediction software.
