Opera Australia has announced a stellar cast for its upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. Celebrated soprano Amy Manford will reprise her role as Christine Daaé, bringing her globally acclaimed portrayal to the iconic outdoor stage from March 27 to May 3, 2026.

Joining Manford is newcomer Jake Lyle, who will make his musical theatre debut as The Phantom. The 22-year-old from Gladstone, Queensland, is currently studying Classical Voice at Queensland Conservatorium and is an Emerging Artist in Residence at Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Completing the lead trio is rising star Jarrod Draper as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny. Draper, a proud Wiradjuri man, has already made a name for himself in productions such as Moulin Rouge and Sunset Boulevard.

Amy Manford: A Global Star Returns to Australia

Amy Manford has captivated audiences worldwide with her performances as Christine Daaé, both in Australia and on the West End in London. Her return to Sydney Harbour promises to be a highlight of the 2026 season. Manford has also toured with classical crossover legend Andrea Bocelli and performed at prestigious events like the AFL Grand Final and for King Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Her recent achievements include co-producing and performing in Disney concerts and releasing her first EP, “A Dream is A Wish.” Manford’s classical training at the Royal College of Music in London and WAAPA has solidified her reputation as one of the leading sopranos of her generation.

Jake Lyle: A Rising Talent Takes Center Stage

Jake Lyle’s casting as The Phantom marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. Despite being relatively new to the musical theatre scene, Lyle has already garnered attention for his vocal prowess. Music Supervisor Guy Simpson remarked,

“I think Jake has a stellar future, and we will all remember his Opera Australia debut for a long time to come.”

Lyle’s academic accolades include the Elizabeth Muir Undergraduate Memorial Award and the Donald Penman Prize. His recent performances in operatic scenes have showcased his versatility and potential to become a leading figure in the industry.

Jarrod Draper: Breaking Barriers in Musical Theatre

Jarrod Draper’s journey in musical theatre is marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements. As the first Indigenous graduate of WAAPA’s Musical Theatre program, Draper has consistently pushed boundaries, becoming the first Indigenous artist to play Toulouse-Lautrec in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

His role as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera is another testament to his talent and dedication. Draper’s performances have been praised for their emotional depth and technical skill, making him a standout in the Australian theatre scene.
