Police are investigating a fire in which a woman and her child were burnt to death in their Mpumalanga home.
Police are probing an incident in which a woman and her 7-year-old child were burnt to death in their Mpumalanga home.
A fire broke out at the property in Masoyi near White River on Saturday.
Police said the 38-year-old woman’s husband had been visiting friends on Friday.
“Upon his return to his family, he reportedly noticed with amazement as smoke gushed from the air bricks. He then broke the door to gain access and found the house reduced to ashes, while his wife and child lay motionless in the charred remains of the building,” police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said.
Police and paramedics were summoned to the house and the victims were certified dead.
“Police urge anyone who might have seen or who might have potential information that can assist in the investigation to contact Detective Sergeant Linko Bheki Motubatse at 072 681 8709 or call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111,” Hlathi said.
