A UK man has visited 51 pubs in about nine hours and is now claiming to have made a new ‘world record’. The British man, Matt Ellis hailing from Cambridgeshire’s St Neots said he attempted visiting the maximum number of pubs in 24 hours, without getting drunk, to draw attention towards the plight of pubs and nightclubs hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ellis visited 51 pubs in 8 hours, 52 minutes, and 37 seconds, he said. To break the Guinness World Record, the 48-year-old had to drink at least 125 ml at each pub but he mainly had orange juice and diet coke along with four pints of beer, for his health.
“I wanted to keep it responsible and didn’t drink too much for my health. Maybe several years ago I would have made it with 51 alcoholic drinks but not now,” said Ellis, who runs a wine merchant in St Neots.
The 48-year-old said that he is big of pubs and their contribution to the society, and said, It was all about the joy of pubs and the people you meet. I am a big fan of pubs – the contribution they make to our society and the camaraderie you can enjoy in them. It’s been a really bad year,” quoted Mirror.
“I wanted to raise their profile for people to get down to their local and support their community,” he added.
Ellis had consumed reportedly 6.3 litres of liquid by the end of his pub-crawl and the evidence of the same has been to Guinness World Records for official certification.
Ellis’ attempt was witnessed by individuals who took pictures in all 51 pubs, he said. If Guinness World Records verifies Ellis’ record, he will be the first person to achieve such a feat.
