In a significant reshuffle, the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) has announced the appointment of eight new staff members to address existing vacancies and bolster the delivery of its Strategic Plan 2025-2028. This move is part of a broader trend of leadership changes across South Australia, impacting various sectors from technology to public service.

SAFC’s Strategic Appointments

Among the new appointees at SAFC, Mags Scholes has been named as the production executive (SA led), while Neil Rennison steps in as the acting game development executive. Jessica Giacco takes on the role of talent development manager, Astrid Samuel becomes the program systems manager, and Gavin Heard is appointed as head of corporate.

In newly created roles, Carmel Boffa joins as client services coordinator, Yanhui (James) Fu as cleaning and maintenance officer, and Brian Scarce as First Nations programs lead. These appointments are expected to inject fresh energy and direction into SAFC’s operations.

Mags Scholes brings over 25 years of experience in agencies, production, and international projects, focusing on inclusive talent development and high-stakes content delivery. Previously, she was the head of content at Screen Queensland.

Neil Rennison, with a 25-year career in game development, is the founder of Tin Man Games and has led the creation of over 60 digital titles. His expertise is anticipated to drive SAFC’s game development initiatives forward.

Jessica Giacco, with more than a decade in creative development and industry programming, was most recently the industry programs manager at Screen Producers Australia. Her role will be pivotal in nurturing talent within SAFC.

Meanwhile, Astrid Samuel’s experience in change management and building flexible systems will be crucial as she steps into her new role. Her background includes significant positions with Wild Bunch in Paris and Odin’s Eye Entertainment in Sydney.

Gavin Heard, an experienced executive with over 20 years across public and private sectors, will focus on aligning strategy, governance, and experience to enhance corporate performance at SAFC.

Leadership Changes at Prophecy International

In another major development, Brad Thomas has resigned as CEO of Prophecy International Holdings Ltd, a software developer in South Australia. Thomas, who joined Prophecy in 2016 and became CEO in 2017, has been instrumental in advancing the company’s products and expanding its international operations.

Ed Reynolds, the current chair, has been appointed as acting CEO while the company searches for a new leader. Additionally, Matthew Michalewicz has resigned from the board to avoid a conflict of interest related to a proposed merger with Complexica, where he serves as CEO.

The resignations coincided with a warning of unexpectedly high customer losses, resulting in a 26.09% drop in Prophecy’s shares, marking a challenging period for the company.

GPEx and Barunga West Council Announce New Leadership

GPEx, a key player in the primary care sector, has appointed Beth McKenzie as CEO. A Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in strategy, financial management, and organisational transformation, McKenzie has been acting CEO since March 2025.

Her previous roles include senior leadership positions at Murray Zircon, Mitsubishi Motors Australia, and TAFE SA, among others. McKenzie expressed her enthusiasm for enhancing primary care through advanced digital capabilities and comprehensive expertise.

Meanwhile, Maree Wauchope, CEO of Barunga West Council, has announced her resignation to join SA Housing Trust as executive director of property services. During her tenure, Wauchope spearheaded infrastructure investments and community initiatives, leaving a lasting impact on the council.

New Additions at Belinda Public Relations and Dara School

Belinda Public Relations (BPR) has welcomed new public relations professionals, Kate Rosman and Chrissie Zikos. Rosman, a former elite athlete, brings experience in media relations and event coordination, while Zikos offers expertise in social media strategy and content creation.

The Dara School has appointed Tania Allen and Dr. Emma Goodall as co-principals. Allen, a long-time teacher at Dara, and Goodall, a nationally recognized leader in inclusive education, are set to continue building on the school’s foundation for gifted education.

Spacetalk Welcomes John Bird to Its Board

Spacetalk has announced the appointment of John Bird as an independent non-executive director and chair of the Audit & Risk Committee.
