Insta360 has unveiled the GO Ultra, the newest addition to its acclaimed GO Series, promising substantial enhancements in imaging performance while maintaining the series’ signature portability. The announcement comes as the company aims to cater to a diverse audience, from content creators to athletes, with a versatile, compact camera.
The Insta360 GO Ultra boasts a larger sensor and AI-powered imaging capabilities, alongside longer runtimes, all within the tiny, wearable form factor that has defined the series. With hands-free mounting options, microSD storage, and a waterproof design, Insta360 positions the camera as a versatile tool for creators, athletes, families, and travelers alike.
Innovative Imaging Technology
At the heart of the GO Ultra is a 1/1.28” sensor, which is 221% larger than its predecessor, coupled with a new 5nm AI chip. This combination facilitates 4K60fps recording, Active HDR, and low-light enhancements through Insta360’s PureVideo mode, which applies AI-driven noise reduction and brightness improvements. A new ambient light sensor further enhances the camera’s ability to reduce flickering and adjust colors in real time.
Insta360 Co-Founder and VP of Marketing Max Richter explained the approach:
“GO Ultra takes the advancements made with the Ace and X series cameras, and puts them into the type of compact, pocket camera our GO Series creators enjoy, opening up new creative opportunities without sacrificing portability.”
Portability and Versatility
Weighing just 53g, the GO Ultra is roughly the size of a smartwatch or a cookie, featuring a built-in magnetic base that allows it to attach to metallic surfaces. This design works seamlessly with mounting accessories such as the Magnet Pendant, Pivot Mount, and Flexi Strap. The expanded lineup of accessories includes Sticky Tabs and a Toddler Titan Hat Clip, broadening the range of use cases.
The camera is IPX8 waterproof up to 10 meters (33 feet), making it suitable for underwater adventures, from snorkeling to family pool parties. Its compact size and weight allow for easy mounting on various surfaces, including bikes and baseball caps, enhancing its appeal to outdoor enthusiasts.
Enhanced Connectivity and Power
In addition to wearable options, the GO Ultra connects via Bluetooth to the included Action Pod, which features a 2.5” flip touchscreen. This enables users to monitor shots in real time and even hand the camera to children for a playful perspective. Cyclists and sports enthusiasts can integrate data overlays from Strava or third-party devices, including GPS, speed, and heart rate, directly into their recordings.
Battery performance has seen a significant upgrade, with the standalone unit running for up to 70 minutes. When paired with the Action Pod, runtime extends to 200 minutes. Fast charging technology allows the battery to reach 80% capacity in just 12 minutes. Unlike its predecessor, the GO Ultra supports microSD cards, offering up to 2TB of removable storage, which facilitates quick card swaps without the need to offload files immediately.
Editing and Availability
The updated Insta360 app on iOS and Android provides AI-powered editing tools, including automatic highlight detection, transitions, effects, and music. Users can also enjoy the new AI Family Moments feature, which organizes footage of loved ones into a dedicated virtual album.
The Insta360 GO Ultra is available starting August 21, 2025, through the Insta360 Store, Amazon, and select retailers. The Standard Bundle is priced at $449.99 and includes the GO Ultra (Standalone Camera and Action Pod) in Midnight Black or Arctic White, along with a Quick Release Safety Cord, Magnetic Easy Clip, Magnet Pendant, USB-C cable, and Lens Guard.
As the action camera market continues to evolve, the Insta360 GO Ultra represents a significant leap forward in combining portability with advanced features. Whether it will redefine the balance between compact form and professional-grade performance remains to be seen, but it certainly opens up new possibilities for users seeking a blend of convenience and capability.
