HTC has officially launched the VIVE Eagle, an innovative line of AI-powered smart glasses, in collaboration with Taiwan Mobile and 2020EYEhaus. Initially available in Taiwan, these glasses integrate voice control, smart photography, and real-time translation into a sleek, lightweight design suitable for everyday use.

The announcement comes as HTC continues to expand its footprint in the realm of personal wearables. Charles Huang, Senior Vice President of HTC, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing intelligent living through technology.

“VIVE Eagle represents HTC’s newest exploration in the realm of intelligent living and personal wearables,” said Huang. “We believe technology should empower self-expression and deepen human connection. VIVE Eagle is a testament to our commitment to creating smart technology that fits naturally into everyday life.”

Innovative Features and Design

The VIVE Eagle glasses boast a slim frame that discreetly houses AI processing and voice interaction capabilities. Weighing just under 49 grams, they feature adjustable nose pads and contoured temples for a comfortable fit. The glasses are equipped with a 12MP ultra-wide camera, enabling users to capture images hands-free by simply saying, “Hey VIVE, take a photo.”

HTC’s AI assistant is compatible with popular platforms like OpenAI GPT and Google Gemini, allowing users to record reminders, take notes, and receive restaurant suggestions via voice commands. The translation feature supports 13 languages, including Arabic, Japanese, Spanish, and French.

Audio and Battery Performance

The open-ear audio system features large drivers and virtual bass enhancement, providing an immersive sound experience while allowing users to remain aware of their surroundings. The glasses are powered by a 235mAh battery, offering up to 36 hours of standby time and approximately 4.5 hours of continuous music playback. A magnetic charger can replenish the battery to 50% in about 10 minutes.

Privacy and Security

Privacy concerns are addressed with local data storage, ensuring user information is not uploaded for AI model training. Third-party AI requests are anonymized, and the system employs AES-256 encryption. A visible LED indicator lights up during recording, and capture automatically stops if the glasses are removed or the light is blocked.

The VIVE Eagle is priced at NT$15,600 (around $520) and is available in Berry, Coffee, Grey, and Black. Each purchase includes ZEISS sun lenses with UV protection, a glasses case, and two years of VIVE AI Plus service at no additional cost.

Market Launch and Future Prospects

Pre-orders for the VIVE Eagle run from August 14 to 31 through the VIVE website, 2020EYEhaus, and select Taiwan Mobile outlets, with sales commencing on September 1. Some telecom plans will offer the device as part of their packages.

Jamie Lin, President of Taiwan Mobile, highlighted the significance of smart eyewear in personalizing AI experiences.

“Smart eyewear is a key enabler for making AI truly personal,” Lin stated. “Through this partnership with HTC, we are not only providing complete mobile rate plans and service experiences but also helping AI blend seamlessly into everyday life.”

This development follows a growing trend in the tech industry towards integrating AI into wearable devices, aiming to enhance user convenience and connectivity. As HTC and its partners roll out the VIVE Eagle, the market will be watching closely to see how consumers respond to this new fusion of fashion and technology.
