There is a renewed sense of excitement at the iconic Hellenic Club in Woden, Canberra, following extensive renovations that have transformed the venue into a brighter, warmer, and more inviting space. The updates celebrate Greek culture, family-friendly values, and modern comforts, offering patrons a rich blend of tradition and contemporary flair.
The renovations have broadened the club’s offerings while preserving its cultural heritage, delivering enhanced comfort, variety, and flavor across the venue. The first highlight is the new Éla Café, a cozy spot perfect for enjoying authentic Greek desserts, cakes, and savory snacks in a casual atmosphere.
Éla Café: A Taste of Greece
Éla Café invites guests to indulge in a selection of Greek delicacies. Hellenic Club CEO Ian Cameron recommends pairing their signature freddo espresso with house-made baklava, galaktoboureko, loukoumades, or koulourakia. “We also have a variety of light lunches inspired by the simple, delicious flavors of Greece,” he says. “Spanakopita, tiropita, and other fresh bites are all on the menu. And no matter your usual brew, our barista-made coffees are sure to transport you straight to the streets of Athens.”
Kivotos Restaurant: Mediterranean Flavors with a Twist
Next up is the newly-opened Kivotos restaurant and wine bar, led by Executive Chef Georgios (George) Giannoulis. Inspired by the warmth and spirit of Greece, Kivotos offers authentic Mediterranean flavors with a contemporary twist. The restaurant combines a touch of elegance with traditional Greek hospitality, promising top-notch service in a setting adorned with Greek-inspired decor and glowing pendant lights.
“Savor succulent lamb slow-cooked to perfection, fresh seafood drizzled with olive oil, and classic meze platters designed for sharing,” Ian says. “Pair your meal with a glass of fine wine or a refreshing ouzo for the ultimate cultural experience.”
The Kivotos team is also planning a New Year’s Eve Party on December 31, promising an unforgettable celebration.
The Bistro: A Modern Take on Tradition
The Hellenic Club’s Bistro, a beloved Canberra staple for decades, has been completely transformed. It now offers traditional Greek souvla alongside classic meals that members know and love. The Bistro’s new look features updated interiors that create a warm, modern dining atmosphere, enhanced by lush greenery, soft carpets, and a bright, blushing color palette.
Every corner has been designed with comfort in mind, and the menu reflects this focus. “We’ve got succulent chargrilled meats and souvla straight from the spit, tender steaks, fresh seafood, and hearty pasta dishes,” Ian says. “Even our kids’ menu features authentic souvla, as well as favorites like bolognese, fresh fish and chips, and crispy chicken schnitzels.”
Entertainment and More: Beyond Dining
Hellenic Club has always been a hub for entertainment, and the recent renovations have taken this to new heights. Patrons can enjoy games in the new dedicated Housie room, watch every match from premium seats in the Sports Lounge, and sip cocktails in the stylish Triton Lounge. A new interactive kids’ room ensures that young ones are entertained as well.
Additionally, the club’s versatile function rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and ultra-flexible layouts, catering to events ranging from intimate gatherings to grand receptions.
“We’re really grateful to all of our members for their patience during the renovation process and we couldn’t be happier with the result,” Ian concludes. “I can’t wait to see Canberrans coming together at Hellenic with loved ones. Everyone is welcome here, so come and enjoy our great food, entertainment, and Greek hospitality.”
