In a significant development for the international corrections community, David Brown, CEO of the Department for Correctional Services (DCS) in South Australia, has been appointed as the acting president of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA). This appointment follows the unexpected passing of Peter Severin, the previous president, last month.

Brown, who has been at the helm of DCS for 13 years, will serve as ICPA’s president until the 2026 annual general meeting, when an election will determine the next leader. Brown’s extensive background in corrections, including roles as executive director and director of detention services at G4S Australia, positions him well for this global leadership role. “Mr Brown brings a wealth of experience to this role,” said ICPA vice president Kim Ekhaugen, highlighting Brown’s commitment to advancing professional corrections worldwide.
