The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world’s largest technology exhibition, is underway this week in Las Vegas. This annual event serves as a platform for major brands and innovative startups to showcase their latest advancements, hoping to capture consumer interest and retail shelf space in the coming year. As the show kicks off, LG and Samsung have already made headlines with groundbreaking television designs that push the boundaries of size and thinness.
LG has introduced its latest innovation, the Wallpaper TV, a remarkably thin television that redefines sleek design. Meanwhile, Samsung is targeting consumers who crave larger screens with its new 130-inch model set to debut this year.
LG’s Ultra-Thin Innovation: The Wallpaper TV
Seven years ago, LG revolutionized the market with its first “Wallpaper” TV, the OLED W, which was as thin as a $2 coin but required a connection to a bulky soundbar via a ribbon cable. Today, LG has refined this concept with the new OLED Wallpaper TV, boasting a mere 9mm thickness and the ability to mount flush against the wall.
To enhance the viewing experience, LG has introduced the “Zero Connect box,” allowing all HDMI inputs and antenna connections to link wirelessly to the TV. This innovation eliminates cable clutter, enabling the screen itself to become the focal point of any room.
“The Wallpaper TV represents the beautiful convergence of our True Wireless leadership, form factor innovation, and 13 years of OLED mastery,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “LG continues to raise the bar for OLED TVs, setting the standard for what’s next.”
While the Wallpaper TV will be positioned as the most premium model in LG’s lineup, it is expected to carry only a slight price premium over traditional high-end OLED TVs. Available in 77-inch and 83-inch sizes, this model is set to arrive in Australia later this year.
Samsung’s Giant Leap: The 130-Inch Micro RGB TV
Not to be outdone, Samsung is preparing to launch the largest consumer TV ever seen in Australia—a 130-inch Micro RGB model anticipated in the second half of 2026. This follows a trend of increasing screen sizes, with recent years seeing models reach 115 and even 116 inches, such as Hisense’s 2025 release.
The move to 130 inches is not just about size but also about showcasing the capabilities of Samsung’s new “Micro RGB” technology. This advancement allows for the production of larger screens with enhanced picture quality, making them an attractive option for those with significant budgets. Currently, Samsung’s 115-inch version retails for $29,999.
“Big screens are no longer the exception; they’re the expectation,” stated Simon Howe from Samsung Australia. “Responding to this demand, Samsung is introducing its largest Micro RGB TV with a timeless design that transforms the best picture quality into an artistic centerpiece to elevate home decor.”
Howe emphasized that the Micro RGB technology offers unmatched color accuracy, a glare-free display, and increased brightness, making it ideal for Australian living spaces and social gatherings.
The Broader Market: Diverse Options for 2026
While these high-end models capture attention, the broader television market in 2026 will feature a wide range of options across various price points. This diversity reflects the growing consumer appetite for both cutting-edge technology and affordable innovation.
As CES continues, industry analysts and consumers alike are eager to see how these advancements will influence home entertainment trends. The unveiling of these TVs underscores the ongoing evolution of television technology, where both form and function are being reimagined to meet the demands of modern living.
Trevor Long, a technology expert, traveled to Las Vegas with support from Hisense, Samsung, LG, LEGO, and Reolink to cover these exciting developments.
