Key Facts

In a statement following Trump’s indictment in the January 6 probe, the former president’s campaign attacked the “Biden Crime Family” and the “weaponized Department of Justice.”

The statement said the “persecutions” of Trump and his supporters was “reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes.”

In response, Greenblatt tweeted that comparing the indictments with Nazi Germany in the 1930s “is factually incorrect, completely inappropriate and flat out offensive.”

The ADL chief added that “such comparisons have no place in politics and are shameful.”

Key Background

Trump was charged on four federal criminal counts on Tuesday as part of a federal investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the leadup to the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
