Apple has introduced two new high-performance displays, the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR, designed to complement the Mac and cater to users ranging from casual consumers to top-tier professionals. Announced in Cupertino, California, these displays promise enhanced visual experiences and improved connectivity, marking another significant step in Apple’s display technology.

The Studio Display features a 12MP Center Stage camera, a studio-quality three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio. It also boasts Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, offering greater downstream options for high-speed accessories. Meanwhile, the Studio Display XDR elevates the pro display experience with its 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display, advanced mini-LED backlight, and a wider color gamut, providing breathtaking contrast and vibrancy.

Advanced Features for Professionals

The Studio Display XDR is particularly noteworthy for its 2000 nits of peak HDR brightness and 120Hz refresh rate, which makes it responsive to motion content. It also includes Adaptive Sync, dynamically adjusting frame rates for video playback and gaming. Both displays incorporate the same camera and audio system, alongside Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, simplifying professional workflows.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, stated,

“Apple has led the industry in delivering the world’s most advanced displays for pros to do their life’s best work, and today we do that once again with the introduction of the new Studio Display family.”

Studio Display: A Versatile Companion

The Studio Display is designed to enhance professional workflows, from photo and video editing to music production. Its 27-inch 5K Retina display offers over 14 million pixels and P3 wide color for true-to-life imagery. The display includes a tilt-adjustable stand, with options for a height-adjustable stand or VESA mount adapter, catering to various desk setups.

With Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, users can daisy-chain up to four Studio Display models, achieving nearly 60 million pixels. The display also supports high-speed accessories and offers up to 96W of charging power, sufficient to fast-charge a 14-inch MacBook Pro.

Studio Display XDR: The Pinnacle of Pro Displays

The Studio Display XDR pushes the boundaries of display technology with its mini-LED backlight, 2,304 local dimming zones, and 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It supports Adobe RGB and P3 wide color gamuts, making it ideal for print and design professionals. The display’s 120Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync ensure smooth motion and lower display latency, enhancing gaming and video editing experiences.

Featuring a 12MP Center Stage camera and a sophisticated audio system, the Studio Display XDR also includes Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, acting as a hub for high-speed accessories and offering up to 140W of charging power.

Environmental Considerations and Availability

Both displays are crafted with sustainability in mind, featuring recycled materials and energy-efficient designs. Apple aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030, and these displays contribute to that goal with recycled aluminum and glass components.

Customers can pre-order the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR starting March 4, with availability beginning March 11. The Studio Display starts at $1,599, while the Studio Display XDR starts at $3,299, replacing the Pro Display XDR.
