Delhi Capitals (DC) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday revealed what exactly transpired on the field between him and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Eoin Morgan and pacer Tim Southee. Southee, who was making his debut for KKR dismissed Ashwin in the final over of DC’s batting innings during Match No 41 of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, as soon as Ashwin started to walk back Southee said something to him and then the veteran spin bowler hit back at him before skipper Morgan got involved and it got really heated in the middle before wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik became the peacemaker and separated the two.

Dinesh Karthik had revealed in the post-match press conference that Morgan doesn’t appreciate when batters take an extra run after the ball ricocheted off them bringing ‘Spirit of Game’ into the mix.

A day later, former Australian spinner Shane Warne had labelled Ashwin a disgrace while former India batter Virender Sehwag had taken a dig at Morgan referring to the incident of 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final when England earned a boundary in the final over when the ball had raced towards boundary after ricocheting off Ben Stokes’ bat.

Ashwin clarified everything and hit back at Morgan in a strong response on Twitter. Ashwin revealed that Eoin Morgan called him a disgrace and used derogatory words during their on-field spat while saying that he wasn’t a disgrace.

“1. I turned to run the moment I saw the fielder throw and dint know the ball had hit Rishabh.

2. Will I run if I see it!?

Of course I will and I am allowed to.

3. Am I a disgrace like Morgan said I was?

Of course NOT

“4. Did I fight? No, I stood up for myself and that’s what my teachers and parents taught me to do and pls teach your children to stand up for themselves.”

Ashwin further slammed those who criticised him for bringing ”Spirit of Game’ into the mix.

There are millions of cricketers with several thought processes that play this great game to make it their careers, teach them that an extra run taken due to a poor throw aimed to get you out can make your career and an extra yard stolen by the non striker can break your career

Give your heart and soul on the field and play within the rules of the game and shake your hands once the game is over.

The above is the only ‘spirit of the game’ I understand.
