In a significant development for audio professionals and enthusiasts, HARMAN Professional Solutions has introduced the AKG C-Series, its first new line of studio condenser microphones in eight years. Announced today, the series includes three models—the C104, C114, and C151—crafted to meet the needs of musicians, podcasters, YouTubers, and streamers who demand top-tier sound quality.

The launch of the C-Series marks a return to form for AKG, a brand renowned for its acoustic innovation. These microphones promise to deliver AKG’s signature clarity and detail across a wide range of applications, from vocals and instruments to ambient sound. Each model is equipped with a precision-engineered, transformerless FET circuit, ensuring whisper-quiet operation and a dynamic range that captures the full character of any recording.

The C114: A Gateway to Professional Sound

Among the new offerings, the C114 stands out as a transformative tool for home studios and DIY engineers. This model serves as an affordable entry point into the esteemed C414 family, known for its high-quality sound reproduction. The C114 features a multi-pattern condenser design with an edge-terminated capsule, providing a sweet top-end and excellent off-axis response.

With a maximum sound pressure level (SPL) of 145dB, the C114 eliminates the need for a pad, simplifying the process of recording loud sources. The precision manufacturing ensures that any two units can function as a matched pair, eliminating the need for specially matched sets for stereo recording. This accessibility brings professional-level performance to a broader audience.

C151: A Modern Take on the Pencil Condenser

The C151 model updates the legacy of AKG’s iconic C451B, a staple in the world of pencil condensers for over five decades. This small diaphragm condenser excels in stereo recording, particularly as drum overheads, and is equally adept at capturing acoustic guitar, percussion, and foley work. Like the C114, the C151 can be paired without special matching, making it a versatile addition to any growing microphone collection.

C104: Designed for the Modern Creator

Targeted at musicians, podcasters, and digital content creators, the C104 is a large diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone that captures every detail with precision. Its cardioid capsule and transformerless FET circuit ensure clean, quiet recordings with a broad dynamic range. The C104 is crafted to integrate seamlessly into contemporary recording setups, featuring a sleek design that looks as good on camera as it sounds in playback.

Innovative Design and Sustainability

The C-Series microphones not only deliver in performance but also in design and sustainability. Sporting a modern aesthetic that pays homage to AKG’s design heritage, these microphones are crafted from 100% recycled post-industrial recycled (PIR) metal. The packaging and accessories are engineered for minimal environmental impact, with fully recyclable materials.

“When we set out to create the new AKG C-Series microphones, our goal was simple: let’s design a mic that creators would reach for every day—not just because it sounds incredible, but because it makes the process easier, smoother, and more inspiring,” said Philip Feinman, Product Manager, Recording and Broadcast at HARMAN Professional Solutions.

The launch is being celebrated with a series of exclusive content featuring some of Australia’s top musicians, producers, and sound designers, including Rohan Rebeiro, Michael Paynter, and Dave Jenkins Jnr. These artists will put the C-Series microphones to the test, showcasing their capabilities in real-world scenarios.

The introduction of the C-Series provides flexible options through its cardioid and multi-pattern designs, catering to both those upgrading their setups and newcomers to professional audio capture. With an emphasis on delivering high-quality sound at an accessible price point, the C-Series is poised to become a staple in the toolkit of creators worldwide.
