Adobe has unveiled new versions of Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Adobe Acrobat that integrate directly with ChatGPT, providing free access to these tools for the chatbot’s extensive global user base. This integration places three of Adobe’s most renowned creative and document products within one of the world’s most widely used conversational AI platforms. According to the announcement, ChatGPT boasts over 800 million weekly users.

The move signifies Adobe’s ongoing focus on conversational interfaces and AI assistants, expanding the reach of its software to individuals who may not typically utilize the company’s standalone applications. Users can access these tools by naming an app and providing a plain-language instruction within the chat. ChatGPT then loads the relevant Adobe experience and guides the user through the requested task.

Revolutionizing Creative Workflows

Users can now edit images, create visual designs, or work with PDFs directly inside the chat window, eliminating the need to open separate desktop or mobile applications. Adobe announced that the apps are now accessible for ChatGPT users on desktop, web, and iOS, with Adobe Express for ChatGPT also available on Android. Support for Photoshop and Acrobat on Android is forthcoming.

“We’re thrilled to bring Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat directly into ChatGPT, combining our creative innovations with the ease of ChatGPT to make creativity accessible for everyone,” said David Wadhwani, president, digital media, Adobe. “Now hundreds of millions of people can edit with Photoshop simply by using their own words, right inside a platform that’s already part of their day-to-day.”

Conversational Editing: A New Era

The new apps integrate familiar Adobe features into a conversational workflow. Users can describe the edits they want and refine the results through follow-up prompts. They can also switch from text-based instructions to on-screen controls. The Photoshop experience within ChatGPT includes interface elements such as sliders for brightness or contrast.

An example prompt for Photoshop might be: “Adobe Photoshop, help me blur the background of this image.” The system then identifies the image, applies background blur, and offers options for further changes. Adobe stated that this approach allows step-by-step refinement, enabling users to request adjustments until the output matches their intent.

Photoshop in Chat: Core Image Editing

Photoshop for ChatGPT emphasizes core image editing functions. Users can alter specific regions of a picture, such as a background or a subject, and adjust brightness, contrast, and exposure from within the chat. They can also apply effects such as Glitch and Glow. Adobe assures that the image tools are designed to preserve visual quality while changes are applied, with the chat-based interface leveraging Adobe’s existing imaging technology.

Express for Design: Simplifying Creativity

Adobe Express for ChatGPT introduces template-driven design into the chatbot. Users can browse the Express library of layouts and graphics from within the conversation, selecting templates for occasions such as events, social posts, or marketing materials. They can then fill in text, swap images, and add simple animations, all within the ChatGPT environment, without needing to switch between different design tools.

Adobe explained that the Express integration targets individuals who desire quick, branded, or polished assets without spending time learning complex design software.

Acrobat for PDFs: Streamlining Document Management

Acrobat for ChatGPT focuses on PDF management and text handling. Users can edit PDFs inside the chat, extract passages of text, or pull out tables. The app can merge several files, organize page order, and compress large documents, as well as convert other file types into PDFs. Adobe ensures that the conversion process maintains layout and formatting, with tools available for redacting sensitive details, allowing users to remove confidential information from documents before sharing or exporting them.

AI and Model Context Protocol

The launch follows a series of AI-related updates across Adobe’s portfolio this year. Earlier, the company introduced Acrobat Studio, which creates interactive workspaces on top of static documents, allowing users to ask questions of their PDFs and generate new content from them using conversational prompts and AI models.

At its MAX conference, Adobe also unveiled AI Assistants in Photoshop and Adobe Express, which turn text instructions into creative outputs and then allow detailed manual edits using Adobe’s toolsets. Adobe is also developing an AI Assistant for its Firefly generative service, which will support workflows across multiple Adobe apps and external environments.

The ChatGPT integrations leverage Adobe’s work on agentic AI and the Model Context Protocol, or MCP, which manages how tools interact with AI models and user data across different systems.

Seamless Transition to Full Apps

Adobe stated that the ChatGPT experiences serve as an entry point into its broader product range. Users can initiate a project within ChatGPT and then transition into the full desktop or mobile apps for more detailed control. This transition preserves the state of the work, allowing users to continue editing without repeating earlier steps. This approach links low-friction, text-based creation with deeper professional workflows.

Photoshop, Adobe Express, and Acrobat for ChatGPT are free for ChatGPT users worldwide and are available immediately across supported platforms. The integration represents a significant step in making creative and document management tools more accessible, potentially transforming how individuals and businesses engage with Adobe’s suite of applications.
