Adobe has announced a strategic partnership with Runway to integrate their generative video technology with Adobe’s renowned creative tools. This collaboration aims to redefine the next generation of AI-powered video workflows, providing creators, studios, and brands with cutting-edge tools to enhance their storytelling capabilities.

The partnership designates Adobe as Runway’s preferred API creativity partner, granting Adobe customers early access to Runway’s latest models, including the newly released Gen-4.5. This model is now available exclusively for a limited time in Adobe Firefly, Adobe’s comprehensive creative AI studio, and on Runway’s platform. The two companies plan to jointly develop new AI innovations that will initially be available in Adobe applications, beginning with Adobe Firefly.

Transforming Video Production with AI

As AI continues to revolutionize video production, professionals are increasingly turning to Adobe’s creative ecosystem, which includes tools like Firefly, Premiere, and After Effects. Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Digital Media, stated, “Runway’s generative video innovation combined with Adobe’s trusted pro workflows will help creators and brands expand their creative potential and meet the growing demands of modern content and media production.”

Cristóbal Valenzuela, co-founder and CEO of Runway, added, “We’re building AI tools that are redefining creativity, storytelling, and entertainment, with Gen-4.5 as the latest example. This partnership puts our latest generative video technology in front of more storytellers, inside Adobe’s creative tools that are already the industry standard for many creators around the world.”

Early Access to Cutting-Edge Technology

Adobe Firefly customers can now access Runway’s Gen-4.5 model before its wider public release. This model boasts advanced motion quality, prompt adherence, and visual fidelity, enabling dynamic, controllable action with strong temporal consistency across various generation modes. Creators can stage complex scenes with precise compositions, realistic physics, and expressive characters whose gestures and facial performances remain consistent from shot to shot.

Using Gen-4.5, creators can generate video from text prompts, explore different visual directions, pacing, and motion, and seamlessly transition into Firefly’s video editor to assemble polished, shareable videos. These creations can then be further refined using Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and other Creative Cloud applications.

Collaborative Innovation for Industry Leaders

Adobe and Runway are committed to making generative video a crucial and reliable component of creative AI workflows for creators and brands. They will collaborate with independent filmmakers, major studios, leading agencies, streaming platforms, Fortune 500 brands, and global enterprises to co-develop new video capabilities directly within Adobe tools that industry professionals trust for their most significant projects.

A Creator-First Approach to AI

Adobe Firefly offers creators the flexibility to work with different models depending on the style and tone of their project and story. It is the only platform where creators can utilize the industry’s top generative models and the best AI-powered tools for video, audio, imaging, and design. Adobe’s commercially safe Firefly models, along with an expanding ecosystem of industry-leading partner models from companies like Runway, Black Forest Labs, ElevenLabs, Google, Luma AI, OpenAI, and Topaz Labs, are available to creators.

Adobe emphasizes a creator-friendly approach to AI, viewing it as a tool to enhance, not replace, human creativity. Regardless of the model chosen in the Firefly app, the content is not used to train generative AI models, ensuring creators maintain control over their creative output.

“Adobe takes the most creator-friendly approach to AI in the industry. AI is a tool for, not a replacement of, human creativity.” – Adobe

As Adobe and Runway continue to push the boundaries of AI in video production, the implications for the creative industry are profound. This partnership not only enhances the capabilities of creators but also sets a new standard for how AI can be integrated into professional workflows to produce innovative and compelling content.
