The Gold Coast Titans have announced a significant shift in their football department, appointing Josh Hannay as head coach starting in 2026. Hannay, one of the most promising young coaches in rugby league, will bring his expertise to the Titans after serving as an assistant coach for the Cronulla Sharks. His tenure at Cronulla has been marked by consistent success, with the team reaching the finals every year since his arrival in 2021.
Hannay’s coaching credentials are further bolstered by his role with Billy Slater’s Queensland Origin side, which has secured three out of the past four State of Origin series victories. Titans CEO Steve Mitchell expressed enthusiasm about Hannay’s appointment, highlighting his readiness to lead a team and his strong rapport with players and staff.
“Josh is one of the best young minds in the game,” Mitchell stated. “He is highly regarded with players and staff who have worked with him across his coaching roles to date, speaking to his ability to communicate and deliver a winning game plan.”
Building a Stronger Titans Team
Hannay’s contract with the Titans spans three seasons, commencing after the conclusion of Cronulla’s 2025 finals campaign. Alongside Hannay, the Titans have also announced the return of Scott Sattler as director of football (NRL). Sattler, a former premiership winner and the Titans’ inaugural general manager of football, is expected to play a crucial role in elevating the club’s high-performance standards.
Mitchell emphasized Sattler’s dedication and history with the club, noting his deep-rooted connection to the Gold Coast region and his experience in assembling successful teams.
“Scott is passionate about the Coast and wants success for this club,” Mitchell said. “He has a strong connection with the Titans, having been involved in the development of the inaugural roster back in 2007.”
Strategic Appointments for Future Success
The reshaping of the Titans’ football department also includes the appointment of Anthony Laffranchi as head of recruitment. A former representative player at both Origin and international levels, Laffranchi is one of the Titans’ foundation players and brings a wealth of experience and passion for the club.
Mitchell highlighted Laffranchi’s integrity and commitment to shaping a balanced and successful roster, aligning with the club’s vision for future success.
“Anthony is held in high regard. He is a person of great integrity and is a great clubman,” Mitchell remarked. “We know we have some refinements to make to our roster, and we are confident that Anthony has the skills and the character and support to be successful in the role.”
Looking Ahead: A New Chapter for the Titans
The appointments of Hannay, Sattler, and Laffranchi represent a strategic move by the Titans to bolster their leadership and expertise within the club. With a focus on strong character and a commitment to excellence, the Titans aim to create a winning culture that resonates both on and off the field.
As the Titans prepare for this new chapter, the club’s leadership remains optimistic about the potential for success. The integration of experienced professionals like Hannay, Sattler, and Laffranchi is seen as a pivotal step towards achieving the club’s long-term goals.
The announcement of these appointments marks the beginning of a transformative period for the Titans, setting the stage for future achievements and a renewed sense of purpose within the organization.
