IM Motors, a subsidiary of the automotive giant SAIC, has announced the pre-sale of its new LS6 SUV, a vehicle that promises to redefine electric mobility with its innovative features and design. The LS6, available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variants, is set to officially launch on September 10 in China. Prices for the LS6 range from 209,900 to 279,900 yuan (approximately 29,200 to 39,000 USD).

The LS6 SUV has already garnered significant interest, with over 10,000 units ordered within the first 30 minutes of pre-sale. This overwhelming response underscores the growing consumer demand for cutting-edge electric vehicles in China, the world’s largest auto market.

Innovative Features and Design

The LS6’s design is both modern and functional, featuring a fastback shape with wider front and rear fenders. It comes equipped with double five-spoke rims and distinctive red brake calipers. The vehicle’s front is marked by Y-shaped “Starlight” headlights, while the rear sports a “Skyline 2.0” through-type taillight strip.

In terms of dimensions, the EREV variant measures 4937/1988/1671 mm (length/width/height) with a wheelbase of 2960 mm. The BEV variant is slightly shorter by 2 mm but retains the same width and height. The LS6 also offers six exterior paint options, catering to diverse consumer preferences.

Advanced Technology and Performance

The LS6 is powered by IM Motors’ proprietary technologies, including the “Stellar” range-extender system for the EREV variant. This system combines a Zephyr 1.5T engine with an 800V silicon carbide “Hurricane” electric motor, delivering a maximum power of 114 kW (153 hp) and 230 kW (308 hp), respectively. The EREV boasts a maximum CLTC comprehensive range of 1,502 km and a pure electric range of 450 km. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

LS6 66 Max EREV: 66 kWh battery pack, 450 km pure electric range, 1,502 km comprehensive range

The BEV variant offers both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) options. The RWD version has a maximum power of 245 kW (329 hp) and a 76 kWh battery, offering a range of 650 km. The AWD version, with a combined system power of 500 kW (671 hp) and a 103 kWh battery, provides a range of 750 km and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.48 seconds. Under fast charging, the LS6 can recharge 310 km of range in 15 minutes.

Interior and Comfort

The LS6’s interior has been significantly upgraded, featuring a 27.1-inch 5K central display and a 15.6-inch 3K co-pilot entertainment screen, both powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. Consumers can choose between a full or half steering wheel, enhancing the driving experience.

The five-seater layout includes a co-pilot zero-gravity seat with a 121° adjustable angle and rear seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions. Additional interior features include an 11 L refrigerator, 50 W wireless fast charging, 21 speakers, and ambient lighting, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable ride.

Market Implications and Future Prospects

The launch of the LS6 comes at a time when the global automotive industry is rapidly shifting towards electric vehicles. IM Motors’ strategic move to incorporate advanced technologies and luxurious features positions the LS6 as a formidable competitor in the electric SUV segment.

According to industry analysts, the LS6’s competitive pricing and innovative features could significantly impact the market, challenging established players and potentially accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in China and beyond. As the official launch approaches, all eyes will be on IM Motors to see how the LS6 performs in the market and whether it can meet the high expectations set by its pre-sale success.
