Xpeng, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is making a significant push into the Australian market with plans to deliver 1,000 units of its G6 electric SUVs each month. This ambitious strategy, announced by its local distributor TrueEV, aims to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the region.

TrueEV confirmed this week that shipments of an additional 1,000 Xpeng G6 units are set to arrive in Australia across August and September. “This is part of TrueEV’s plan to bring around 1,000 units per month to help meet growing demand,” stated Jason Clarke, CEO of TrueEV. This influx could position the Xpeng G6 as one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the Australian market, despite the company’s decision not to disclose sales data through the Electric Vehicle Council or the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

Xpeng’s Strategic Market Entry

The announcement comes as Xpeng seeks to capitalize on the growing interest in electric vehicles in Australia. The G6 SUV, offered in two variants, starts at $54,800 before on-road costs, with the long-range version priced from $59,800. These competitive prices, which include metallic paints and 20-inch sports wheels, make the G6 one of the most well-equipped standard vehicles available.

“We view this as an opportunity to demonstrate what the next generation of EVs can deliver in both technology and driver experience,” Clarke added. “Xpeng is at the frontier of AI and smart driving, and Australian drivers are responding to that in a big way.”

The G6’s pricing strategy positions it below Australia’s current best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, offering an attractive alternative for consumers seeking a mid-sized family SUV. This move reflects a broader trend in the market, as more mid-sized electric SUVs are introduced, including the Deepal S07, Leapmotor C10, Geely EX5, Kia EV5, and BYD Sealion 7.
