Snowing at Elizabeth Quay.
Snow is set to fall in Perth for the first time as Elizabeth Quay transforms into a winter wonderland next weekend. The event, aptly named “Cosy at the Quay,” will offer a taste of European winter with free, family-friendly activities from noon to 10 p.m. on July 18-20.
Visitors can expect an hourly snowfall from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., lasting approximately 15 minutes each time. Organizers remind attendees to bring jackets and cameras to capture the fleeting snowflakes. The event promises a magical atmosphere with marshmallow roasting, food trucks, and live entertainment.
A European Winter Experience in Perth
At the heart of the event is a heated retreat known as the winter dome. This glowing sanctuary is designed to offer a cosy charm with snug furniture, transforming throughout the day to suit different audiences. By day, it serves as a family-friendly haven with a live piano accordion and a kids’ dance party. By night, it morphs into “Euro Nights,” featuring some of Perth’s hottest DJs.
For those with a sweet tooth, marshmallow toasting will take place by cosy fire pits from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day, with marshmallows and sticks provided free of charge. The culinary offerings extend to European-inspired comfort food, including Polish-style toasted sandwiches and wood-fired pizza, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Entertainment and Activities for All Ages
The entertainment lineup includes live opera, poetry readings, Viennese waltzing, stilt-walkers, and European folk lessons, promising a rich cultural experience. For additional school holiday fun, a special kids’ hour is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, featuring a kid-friendly dance party and a special appearance by The Ritz Carlton Perth mascot, Leo the Lion.
Community Impact and Economic Boost
According to event organizers, “Cosy at the Quay” is expected to draw significant crowds, providing a much-needed boost to local businesses and tourism. This initiative aligns with Perth’s broader strategy to enhance its cultural offerings and attract visitors during the winter months.
“We are thrilled to bring a slice of European winter to Perth,” said an event spokesperson. “It’s a unique opportunity for families to enjoy a winter experience right here in the city.”
