The city venue promises to bring the essence of the South West.
Perth beer enthusiasts will soon find a taste of the South West right in the heart of the city. Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co, known for its award-winning beers, is set to open a new venue in Brookfield Place, St Georges Terrace, by July 2026. This expansion brings the laid-back vibes of the Margaret River region to the bustling Perth CBD.
The new venue will be Cheeky Monkey’s first foray into the city, complementing its existing locations: Caves Road Brewpub, Vasse Brewery & Taphouse, and Rockingham Taphouse. The latter was a strategic acquisition and transformation of the former Sound Brewing Co, showcasing the brand’s growth since its inception as a brewpub in 2012.
Transforming the Urban Landscape
The new city location promises to be a beer haven for urban dwellers, featuring a re-imagined interior and an expanded beer garden. With 24 taps offering the brewery’s most celebrated beers and a globally inspired food menu, the venue aims to provide a relaxed escape from the CBD’s hustle and bustle.
Brent Burton, Cheeky Monkey’s managing director, expressed his excitement about the expansion:
“It’s an incredible honor to partner with Brookfield Properties and join the world-class precinct at Brookfield Place. Creating a signature venue in the CBD is a major milestone for Cheeky Monkey, and one we’re extremely excited to unveil in July 2026.”
Staying True to Its Roots
Despite its new metropolitan setting, Cheeky Monkey remains committed to its South West roots. Brendan Day, the director of operations, emphasized the brand’s dedication to maintaining its core values:
“We’re re-imagining the space to be entirely focused on high-quality hospitality without the ego or pretence. Our vision is to bring the essence of the South West to St Georges Terrace — great beer, elevated pub food, and a welcoming place people want to spend time in.”
This approach aligns with the brand’s philosophy of offering a genuine and unpretentious experience, reminiscent of the relaxed atmosphere of the Margaret River region.
A Brewing Trend in the CBD
Cheeky Monkey’s move is part of a broader trend of popular Western Australian brewpubs establishing a presence in Perth’s CBD. Fremantle’s Little Creatures is also set to open at Elizabeth Quay in November 2025, further enriching the city’s vibrant beer scene.
The Brookfield Place precinct is undergoing significant changes, with the recent opening of Hub Australia’s 10,000sqm premium workspace across four floors of Tower One. Meanwhile, the area bid farewell to Bar Lafayette in late December, marking the end of an era after 13 years. However, its legacy continues with sister bar W Churchill next door.
Looking Ahead
The arrival of Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co in Perth’s CBD is a testament to the city’s evolving hospitality landscape. As more iconic brands make their way into the urban core, Perth residents and visitors alike can look forward to a richer and more diverse culinary and cultural experience.
The new venue is poised to become a favorite spot for both city workers and beer aficionados, offering a unique blend of South West charm and metropolitan convenience. As the opening date approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a significant addition to Perth’s vibrant dining and entertainment scene.
