For many women, wearing a bra is a daily necessity, yet a staggering 80 percent are reportedly wearing the wrong size. In an effort to address this widespread issue, Kmart has launched initiatives to help women find bras that not only fit well but also feel comfortable.
“At Kmart, we know that a well-fitting bra can make a real difference to everyday comfort and confidence. Bras are something many people wear daily, yet fit is often overlooked or misunderstood,” a Kmart spokesperson explained. “Our focus is about making good fit more accessible, with guidance, inclusive sizing, and affordable options that don’t compromise on quality or support. We want customers to feel supported without having to spend a lot.”
Guidance and Accessibility
The cornerstone of Kmart’s initiative is the Women’s Bra Fit Guide available on their website. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to measure both bust and underbust to determine the correct body and cup size. Additionally, it offers solutions to common bra fitting problems, helping customers identify why a bra might not fit correctly and what to look for instead.
To ensure the most accurate measurements, Kmart experts recommend measuring “under the bust snugly to find your band size” and “around the fullest part of the bust for your cup size.” Removing bulky clothing and ensuring the measuring tape is level and not twisted are also advised for precision.
Practical Tips for Bra Shopping
While knowing your size is a helpful starting point, trying on bras remains essential to ensure a perfect fit. “Our biggest tip is not to feel locked into one size. Bra sizing can vary by style, so measuring is a helpful starting point, not a rule,” noted a Kmart spokesperson.
If measurements indicate you are between sizes, comfort should be the priority when trying on bras. “If the band feels tight, try the next band size up. If cups gape or dig in, adjust the cup size accordingly,” advised the expert. “At Kmart, we recommend trying both options where possible. Our everyday low prices make it easier to test what feels best without pressure.”
Considerations Beyond Size
According to Kmart experts, fit isn’t just about numbers. Customers are encouraged to consider several factors:
- Band comfort: It should feel firm but not restrictive.
- Strap fit: Supportive without digging in.
- Cup shape: Smooth coverage without gaps or spillover.
- Fabric and stretch: Comfort for all-day wear.
- Purpose: Everyday, work, lounge, or activewear.
“A bra should feel good when you move, not just when you’re standing still,” emphasized the expert.
Expanding Options and Inclusivity
In addition to helping customers find better-fitting bras, Kmart has refined the fit of all the bras in its range. The cotton bra assortment has been expanded with options like the $20 two-pack push-up rib lace bra and the $20 two-pack push-up wirefree lace bra.
Kmart offers a wide variety of bras, including T-shirt bras, full-figure bras, active sports bras, and wirefree bras. For smaller busts, wirefree bras and bralettes are recommended, while padded and push-up bras are available for those who prefer them. Medium-sized busts can opt for T-shirt bras and lightly padded styles, while larger busts have a range of supportive designs to choose from, including soft cup and non-padded bras for a streamlined silhouette.
The announcement comes as Kmart continues to prioritize inclusivity and accessibility in its product offerings, ensuring that every customer can find a bra that meets their needs without breaking the bank. As the retail landscape evolves, Kmart’s commitment to comfort and affordability positions it as a leader in the market, setting a new standard for what consumers can expect from their shopping experience.
