Renowned for his comedic prowess, actor Rajpal Yadav recently opened up about a profound personal tragedy that shaped his early life. In a candid interview with The Lallantop, Yadav revealed that he lost his first wife, Karuna, in 1991 when he was just 20 years old. Karuna tragically passed away during childbirth, leaving behind their newborn daughter, Jyoti.
Reflecting on that harrowing time, Yadav shared, “Back in the day, if you were a 20-year-old man with a job, people would ask your family to get you married. So, my father got me married. My first wife, she just delivered a baby, a daughter, and died. I was supposed to meet her the next day but was then carrying her dead body on my shoulders. But thanks to my family, my mother, my sister-in-law, it never felt like my daughter didn’t have her mother, she grew up with a lot of love.” Despite the loss, his family ensured that Jyoti never lacked a mother’s affection.
Finding Love Again and Building a Family
Years later, Rajpal Yadav found love again and married Radha in 2003. Together, they have two daughters, Harshita and Rehanshi. In the same interview, Yadav credited Radha as his greatest pillar of strength and praised her for raising Jyoti as her own. “After my guru, my parents, the one who supported me the most is my wife, 100 percent. Radha also raised the daughter I had from my first wife, as her own. She is in Lucknow today, happily married but the credit goes to my family and wife. I did nothing, I was just a medium, everything came along and helped,” he expressed.
Radha’s seamless integration into Yadav’s family and her commitment to maintaining cultural traditions have been pivotal. “I have never asked my wife to wear saree or anything. The way I talk to my mother, my wife talks to her the same way,” Yadav noted, highlighting Radha’s adaptability and respect for familial customs.
Legal Troubles and Industry Support
Meanwhile, Rajpal Yadav is currently embroiled in legal challenges linked to his 2010 directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s commercial failure led to severe financial strain, resulting in multiple cheque-bounce cases. Recently, the Delhi High Court rejected his plea for additional time to repay nearly Rs 9 crore in outstanding dues, leading to his surrender at Tihar Jail.
Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd for the film, which has since spiraled into a prolonged legal battle. Before surrendering, Yadav lamented his inability to repay the debt and remarked on the isolation he feels in the industry, stating, “Everyone is on their own.”
The bail hearing is scheduled for February 12, and Yadav’s family remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
Industry Support and Future Prospects
Despite the challenges, Yadav has received support from several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Varun Dhawan, Sonu Sood, and Guru Randhawa, who have offered financial assistance to help him settle his debts. His manager, Goldie, expressed optimism about Yadav’s release, emphasizing the family’s resilience and hope for the future.
Yadav’s journey is a testament to his enduring strength and the unwavering support of his family. As he navigates these legal hurdles, the actor continues to draw strength from his loved ones and the industry’s backing, looking forward to overcoming these challenges and returning to his passion for acting.
