After years of struggling to reclaim its position as a leader in computer chip design, Intel is making a bold move with its latest Panther Lake chips. These new processors, set to debut in 2026, promise competitive performance in processing, graphics, and artificial intelligence, while maintaining power efficiency. This development comes as Intel seeks to regain ground lost to rivals like AMD and ARM-based chipmakers such as Qualcomm, which have dominated the market in recent years.

Intel’s announcement follows a tumultuous period for the company. Five years ago, Intel outlined a plan to regain its “mojo,” but the journey has been fraught with challenges. Competitors have steadily chipped away at Intel’s market share, with AMD leveraging the same x86 architecture and ARM-based chips gaining popularity for their efficiency. In benchmark tests, the Ultra X7 358H chip inside the MSI Prestige 14 Flip demonstrated its prowess. It outperformed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite in Microsoft’s Surface Laptop and provided a compelling challenge to Apple’s M5 chip in the 14-inch MacBook Pro. While Apple still led in single-core tests, Intel’s chip excelled in multi-core and graphics tests.
