With property prices skyrocketing across Australia, there is no shortage of prestige homes boasting luxury living areas, resort-style pools, and lavish ensuites. However, a new trend is emerging in the realm of high-end real estate: luxury garages designed to showcase and secure prized car collections.

Michael Bacon, Director at Place Kangaroo Point, notes that while luxury garages are somewhat rare, they are increasingly in demand. “It’s a showcase,” he says. “If you have expensive cars in a nice garage, it’s like showing off art in a gallery. You want the correct light, the correct flooring. Privacy and security are very important as well, not to mention insulation, climate control, and charging facilities.”

The Appeal of High-End Garages

The desire for luxury garages is driven by several factors, including the shrinking size of house blocks and the rising cost of construction, which make it challenging for homeowners to budget for a sizeable garage. Despite these challenges, there are clear benefits to having a luxury garage space. “If people are spending a lot of money on a substantial home, they expect a minimum of four to five car parks with enough height for larger cars,” explains Bacon.

Storing cars off-site can be an annoyance, he adds, highlighting the convenience of having vehicles readily accessible. “We’re also seeing people integrate gyms and wellness centers into these spaces—like the property at 55 Stella Place, Bonogin—to create high-end man caves.”

With advancements in technology and design, these garages are becoming more than just storage spaces—they are evolving into lifestyle hubs that reflect the owner’s passions and interests.

As the demand for such spaces grows, real estate developers and architects will need to innovate, finding new ways to incorporate these high-end features into residential designs. The luxury garage, once a rarity, is now a symbol of status and sophistication in the world of high-end real estate.
