The new Cambridge Audio Melomania A100 wireless earbuds have officially hit the market, marking a significant milestone for the iconic British audio brand. Known for its high-fidelity audio equipment, Cambridge Audio has been a stalwart in the hi-fi scene for over 50 years. With the launch of the Melomania A100, the London-based company is poised to continue its legacy of innovation and excellence.
Designed to deliver the brand’s award-winning sound in a compact form, the Melomania A100 earbuds are the latest addition to Cambridge Audio’s impressive lineup. These earbuds have been meticulously crafted by the company’s engineers in London, utilizing the same Class AB amplification technology found in their acclaimed CX and EX Series amplifiers.
Advanced Audio Technology
The Melomania A100 earbuds feature 10mm precision-tuned dynamic Neodymium drivers, promising a deeper bass, richer mids, and clear highs for a high-fidelity listening experience. Supporting hi-res LDAC and aptX Lossless audio codecs over Bluetooth, these earbuds are the first to incorporate Cambridge Audio’s proprietary DynamEQ technology. This innovation ensures that audio details remain balanced, even at low volumes.
According to Cambridge Audio, the A100 earbuds offer up to 11 hours of continuous playback on a full charge. The earbuds are designed with comfort in mind, using lightweight materials and a variety of silicone tip sizes to ensure a snug fit.
Engineering Excellence
To pack Cambridge Audio’s signature sound into such a small device, the engineers employed hi-fi grade Class AB amplification to power the 10mm Neodymium drivers. This results in a warmer, more musical sound compared to standard Class D amplification. The earbuds also utilize Qualcomm’s dual-core 240MHz Kalimba digital signal processor for refined sound processing and reduced distortion.
The Melomania A100 earbuds come in black or white and include a range of high-quality ear tips for optimal acoustic isolation. This is the fourth iteration in the Melomania series, a personal project for Cambridge Audio’s chairman, James Johnson-Flint, who has been on a quest to create the perfect-sounding earbuds.
Customizable Listening Experience
Out of the box, the A100 earbuds are tuned to deliver the classic Cambridge Audio sound. However, users can personalize their listening experience using the new Melomania Connect app. The app allows for sound customization through a 7-band adjustable EQ, and offers six EQ presets tailored for different music genres. Users can also remap touch controls on each earpiece to their liking.
The A100 earbuds also feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with a hybrid combination of Feed-Back and Feed-Forward ANC, effectively blocking out unwanted sounds. This is achieved through external microphones monitoring ambient noise and internal microphones monitoring the ear canal.
Extended Battery Life and Connectivity
With a full charge, the A100 earbuds offer up to 11 hours of playback without ANC, and 6.5 hours with ANC enabled. The compact charging case provides an additional 28 hours of listening time, and a quick 10-minute charge can add three more hours of playback.
The earbuds support Bluetooth Version 5.4 and Multipoint Connectivity, allowing users to connect two devices simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful for switching between personal and business calls without interruption. For calls and meetings, the A100 uses six microphones with advanced cVc noise isolation technology to enhance call clarity.
Market Launch and Pricing
The Melomania A100 earbuds are available for purchase on Cambridge Audio’s website and Amazon across Europe and Asia, priced at $149.99 / £119 / €139. However, they are not expected to be available in the U.S. until later this year.
With the introduction of the Melomania A100, Cambridge Audio continues to push the boundaries of audio technology, offering consumers a premium listening experience in a compact and stylish form. As the company celebrates its new branding and product lineup, the A100 earbuds are set to become a staple for audiophiles worldwide.
