When you can’t celebrate on the original day, why not double-down for the WA Day Festival? This annual celebration of Western Australia will once again be held over two days this weekend, offering a plethora of free daytime entertainment and high-octane music concerts each night at Burswood Park.

A WA-themed drone show, exclusive to Saturday night, is anticipated to be one of the weekend’s standout attractions, while fireworks will cap off the free activities on both nights. Local hip-hop artist Drapht will headline the onstage bill on Saturday, joined by performers such as Orchxtra featuring acclaimed stage star Lucy Durack, Eurovision contestants Voyager, Ullah, Boox Kid, Smol Fish, and South Summit.

Music and Memories: A Star-Studded Line-Up

On Sunday, the spotlight will shift to Little Birdy and Jebediah, along with Dolce Blue, Mariae Cassandra, Flewnt, and Orchxtra. Indie rockers Little Birdy, who rose to fame in the early 2000s, have just completed a reunion tour around Australia to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their debut album BigBigLove, featuring popular tracks like “Relapse” and “Beautiful To Me.”

Lead singer Katy Steele expressed excitement about the festival, noting the timelessness of their music and the opportunity to engage with both original fans and a new generation. “We feel really happy to be involved,” she said. “I’m hoping to reach a new audience with it being a free event, so people can bring their kids and hopefully make some new memories.”

Family Fun and Thrilling Entertainment

Organizers have promised a family zone and community hub filled with activities both on the ground and in the sky. Brayden Davies, co-founder of Hardwired Entertainment, highlighted a BMX ramp show where professional riders will perform stunts like backflips and 360s. “They’ll roll in with some speed and be doing backflips, 360s and letting go of the bike — it’s pretty cool to watch,” Davies said.

The festival will also feature carnival rides, show bags, a mascot race, skydivers, and performances by local companies including Yirra Yaakin Theatre and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre. An innovation and education alley will offer science experiments, sustainability lessons, gold rush adventures, and helicopter rescues, providing educational fun for all ages.

Supporting a Cause: Community and Charity

Coles will be firing up the barbecue for a traditional sausage sizzle, aiming to raise $30,000 for Telethon over the weekend. “This is one of the bigger events that we do so WA Day is a really important event for us,” said a Coles representative. With a sausage sizzle costing $3.50 or $5 including a water, it’s an affordable meal for families while supporting a great cause.

Other food trucks and stalls, along with a licensed bar, will be available on site. The WA Day Festival is made possible thanks to support from BHP, the WA Government, and Lotterywest. Patrons are encouraged to take advantage of public transport to Burswood Park to ease traffic and parking concerns.

Looking Ahead: A Celebration of State and Community

The WA Day Festival not only celebrates the state’s rich culture and community spirit but also serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together. As Western Australians gather to enjoy music, food, and entertainment, the festival underscores the value of shared experiences and community support.

With diverse attractions and activities planned, the festival promises to be a memorable event for all attendees, young and old. As the weekend approaches, excitement builds for a celebration that embodies the spirit of Western Australia.
