Wedding bells are set to chime for Matildas superstar Sam Kerr and American soccer player Kristie Mewis as they prepare to tie the knot in Perth on December 31, 2025. The couple, who have been engaged for two and a half years, will celebrate their union just in time for the New Year.

The highly anticipated ceremony will be held in Kerr’s hometown, marking a significant moment for the couple who have already welcomed their first child, Jagger Mewis-Kerr, into the world. While specific details about the wedding remain under wraps, Mewis recently shared some insights on a podcast, hinting at the venue, guest list, and their son’s role in the ceremony.

Details of the Ceremony

The couple will exchange vows at a recently renovated private home in Perth. Mewis described the venue as “absolutely gorgeous” and “everything we want it to be,” during a conversation on the podcast Mewis Squared, co-hosted with her sister, former professional soccer player Sam Mewis. The ceremony is scheduled to take place later in the day to allow the couple and their guests to celebrate the New Year at midnight.

Western Australia is currently experiencing record-breaking heat, and Mewis expressed some concern about the weather, noting, “I’m a little bit nervous about the heat. It is going to be a very hot Australian summer.”

The Guest List and Special Roles

The intimate ceremony will host approximately 120 guests, including fellow Matildas players. Mewis admitted feeling overwhelmed by the number of attendees, saying, “Talking to 120 people in one night is a lot, and the thing that worries me is that I won’t be able to give enough time to everybody.”

Although their seven-month-old son Jagger will not have a specific role in the ceremony, he will make a memorable appearance. Mewis revealed, “Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle, which is very, very, very sweet.” Jagger will don a mini outfit matching Kerr’s, adding a personal touch to the event.

Fashion and Personal Touches

Mewis plans to wear multiple outfits throughout the evening, although she has kept the specifics under wraps. She mentioned on her podcast, “One of my looks is all set, I just finished it this morning.” The couple has already shared a few pre-wedding looks on Instagram, showcasing coordinated white outfits.

The couple will share personal vows during the ceremony. Mewis has been jotting down thoughts and memories in her notes app over the years, which she plans to use to craft her vows. “I’m not going to be able to get through them, I’m so nervous of just sobbing through them,” she confessed.

Celebrating Love and Looking Forward

While Mewis and Kerr view their wedding as a personal affair, they acknowledge its significance as a celebration of queer love. “We don’t want to make it a big deal, we want to normalise it. But at the same time I do want to acknowledge and celebrate that it’s a little bit different,” Mewis stated.

Post-wedding, the couple has yet to finalize honeymoon plans, primarily due to Kerr’s professional commitments. However, they are considering attending the Men’s World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the US next year.

The announcement of Kerr and Mewis’s wedding comes as a heartwarming conclusion to 2025, offering a moment of joy and celebration for fans of the soccer stars and the broader community.
