NEWARK, N.J., June 23, 2025 — Panasonic LUMIX has announced a significant series of firmware updates for its full-frame mirrorless cameras, the LUMIX S1RII, S1II, and S1IIE. These updates, set to be available for download from June 24, 2025, aim to enhance the hybrid shooting experience and expand the cameras’ functionality, aligning with LUMIX’s commitment to supporting creators.

The updates are part of Panasonic’s ongoing effort to maintain its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving camera market. By offering these enhancements free of charge through the LUMIX Global Customer Support website, Panasonic demonstrates its dedication to customer satisfaction and technological innovation.

Key Features of the LUMIX S1RII Firmware Update

The LUMIX S1RII firmware version 1.2 introduces several advanced recording formats, including 8.1K and 7.2K (3:2) Open Gate recording. Additionally, RAW data video can now be output via HDMI for external recording. With the use of the DMW-SFU3A Software Upgrade Key, ARRI LogC3 becomes available, allowing colors to match those of ARRI’s digital cinema cameras.

Urban Sports recognition is a notable addition to the camera’s shooting assistance tools. This feature enhances the existing human detection capabilities, enabling the camera to accurately capture dynamic movements such as breakdancing, skateboarding, and parkour. The update also expands frame aspect ratio options from 10 to 17, allowing for the simultaneous display of up to three frames.

“The focus stacking function introduces the ability to synthesize images taken at multiple focus positions to produce a single image with deep depth of field and sharpness throughout.”

Enhanced Workflow and Customization

Panasonic’s updates also provide expanded workflow capabilities. Users can now transfer data directly from CFexpress Type B or SD memory cards to an external SSD, offering greater flexibility. The firmware supports recording proxy files to the internal memory card during HDMI RAW video data output and enables data transfer via Wi-Fi and wired LAN through USB-LAN conversion with Capture One.

Connectivity improvements include compatibility with UVC/UAC devices and Bluetooth® synchronization with DJI’s gimbals. The updates also introduce HLG View Assist for accurate gradation and exposure checks on non-HLG-supporting monitors.

Customization options have been enhanced, allowing the focus ring to function as a control ring, with the ability to assign key functions. Users can also select the focus rotation direction in MF mode and choose from 10 AF frame colors for improved usability.

Updates for LUMIX S1II and S1IIE Models

The firmware version 1.1 for the LUMIX S1II and S1IIE models includes many of the same enhancements as the S1RII. Notably, ARRI LogC3 is available with the DMW-SFU3A Software Upgrade Key, and the frame aspect ratio options have been expanded. The focus stacking function and improved data transfer capabilities are also part of this update.

“ARRI LogC3 is a Log gamma developed by ARRI and used in ARRI digital cinema cameras. Please note: ALEXA 35 uses ARRI LogC4.”

Implications and Industry Context

The announcement comes as the camera industry continues to face intense competition, with manufacturers striving to offer the most advanced features to attract both professional and amateur photographers. Panasonic’s latest firmware updates are a strategic move to solidify its position in the market, particularly among creators who demand high-quality video and photo capabilities.

According to industry analysts, these updates could enhance Panasonic’s appeal to content creators who require versatile and reliable equipment. The integration of features such as ARRI LogC3 and advanced recording formats positions the LUMIX S series as a strong contender in the professional camera segment.

Meanwhile, the focus on improved connectivity and workflow options reflects a broader industry trend towards seamless integration with other digital tools and platforms. As photographers and videographers increasingly rely on diverse ecosystems of technology, such updates are crucial for maintaining relevance and user satisfaction.

Looking ahead, Panasonic’s continued investment in firmware updates suggests a commitment to long-term support and innovation. As technology evolves, the ability to offer new features through software enhancements will likely remain a key factor in customer loyalty and brand strength.
