2026-genesis-gv80-price-drop-and-new-features-unveiled

The 2026 Genesis GV80 has seen a notable price adjustment with the reintroduction of a four-cylinder engine, making it more accessible to luxury SUV enthusiasts. The base model now starts at $120,000 before on-road costs, reflecting a $10,000 reduction. This strategic move comes as the automotive market faces increasing competition and consumer demand for more affordable luxury options.

The return of the turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine marks a significant shift, having been previously discontinued in 2024. However, the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel inline six remains absent as production has ceased. The twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 variant, which previously opened the range, is now $2000 more expensive for the 2026 model year.

Lineup and Pricing Adjustments

The GV80 lineup’s pricing adjustments extend beyond the base model. Other variants in the luxury SUV lineup have seen price increases ranging from $1500 to $1700. Despite these changes, Genesis aims to maintain competitive pricing within the luxury SUV market, competing against established rivals like the BMW X5.

All GV80 models now feature the Signature trim, except for the new Black flagship, which is exclusively available with the 3.5T engine. The GV80 Coupe continues to be offered in its unique trim level, with exclusive features over the Signature SUV, including the Black trim option.

Feature Enhancements and Discontinuations

In terms of features, the previously optional Rear Seat Entertainment Package, which included dual 14.7-inch rear touchscreens, has been discontinued. However, buyers can still opt for a six-seat layout featuring second-row captain’s chairs and a fixed center console with a wireless phone charger.

The new Black editions introduce a range of dark-themed exclusive appointments and eco-friendly materials, such as leather upholstery dyed using recycled carbon black from waste tires. This move aligns with the industry’s growing focus on sustainability.

Technological Advancements

Rounding out the updates for the 2026 model year is the introduction of Digital Key 2.0, a first for Genesis. This technology enhances the existing Genesis Connected Services suite, allowing owners to lock, unlock, and start the engine remotely using compatible smartphones or smartwatches. The Digital Key can be shared with up to 15 devices and operates without requiring a mobile network signal, even if the smartphone battery is depleted.

By the Numbers: To the end of October, Genesis has delivered 165 GV80 SUVs and 72 GV80 Coupes, with the coupe-like body style accounting for 30% of total GV80 sales.

Market Position and Historical Context

Since its 2022 launch, the Genesis GV80 has undergone several updates, including a significant redesign last year that introduced fresh styling, a new Coupe derivative, and a revamped cabin featuring a 27-inch OLED display. These enhancements have positioned the GV80 as a formidable competitor in the luxury SUV segment.

Initially priced at $92,000, the GV80’s base configuration was adjusted with the discontinuation of the 2.5T rear-wheel drive in 2024 and the inclusion of the $10,500 Luxury Pack as standard in 2025. These strategic changes reflect Genesis’ commitment to offering a premium experience while adapting to market demands.

Servicing and Warranty

The Genesis GV80 range is supported by a comprehensive five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years or 50,000km of complimentary scheduled servicing. The Genesis To You service offers a valet collection for servicing, providing a loan vehicle for customers within 70km of Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane CBDs. Additionally, five years of roadside assistance is extended to 10 years for those who service their vehicle with Genesis.

Safety and Standard Equipment

The GV80 boasts a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on 2021 testing, applicable to models with the 2.5-litre turbo-four engine. Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot assist, and a host of other advanced safety technologies.

Standard equipment for the GV80 includes a 27-inch OLED display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and a suite of driver assistance features. The GV80 Coupe adds unique design elements and performance enhancements, such as a Sport+ mode and carbon-fibre interior trim.

As Genesis continues to evolve its lineup, the 2026 GV80 represents a blend of luxury, technology, and value, catering to a discerning clientele seeking a premium SUV experience.
