With its streamlined case, flexible integrated bracelet, and sensual contours, H. Moser & Cie.’s sleek Streamliner luxury sports watch continues its journey onwards and, in this case, upwards, showing no signs of losing momentum. Coinciding with Dubai Watch Week 2025, Moser has unveiled the new Streamliner Perpetual Moon Concept Meteorite, a hyper-accurate moon phase complication framed by a shard of outer space rock sourced from the Gibeon meteorite.
The Streamliner collection, introduced in 2020 with a Flyback Chronograph, has carved a niche for itself without emulating the formula of the Royal Oak and its numerous imitators. Instead, the Streamliner draws inspiration from the remarkable vehicles that emerged during the Streamliner Moderne period (1920s-1930s) in America. This era celebrated the modern machine age and a newfound passion for speed through sleek, aerodynamic designs applied to trains, ocean liners, airplanes, and cars.
Design and Features
The new Perpetual Moon features a 40mm steel case with a thickness of 11.4mm (13.2mm with sapphire crystal) and boasts a water resistance of 120 meters. Flowing seamlessly from the lug-free case, the bracelet is designed with articulated, tapering lugs that adapt perfectly to the wrist. The case is adorned with satin-brushed finishes, and the slightly recessed case middle is also brushed and sandwiched between two polished bevels. The bracelet’s links are vertically brushed with contrasting polished bevels between each link, and the watch is secured with a triple-folding clasp.
Connecting with the vastness of the universe, the dial is crafted from a sliver of the Gibeon meteorite that traveled through space before landing in Namibia. With its unique Widmanstätten pattern produced by the iron-nickel alloys, the meteorite dial is embellished with a golden tone and, in true Moser fashion, a fumé or gradient effect. Like all Moser’s “concept” watches, the dial is stripped down to its bare essentials. Bereft of hour markers, the only other elements on the dial are the central red gold hour and minute hands with Globolight inserts and the large cut-out at 6 o’clock for the moon phase complication.
Precision and Craftsmanship
This is not the first moon phase complication from Moser. The brand has previously showcased this feature in several Endeavour models, including the light-absorbing Vantablack watch. The Streamliner Perpetual Moon is fitted with one of the most precise moon-phase complications available, with a deviation of only one day every 1,027 years. The phases can be adjusted to the minute by a pusher on the side of the case. The red gold Moon is depicted with a golden, textured surface and set against a black background.
“The Streamliner Perpetual Moon Concept Meteorite is a testament to Moser’s commitment to innovation and precision, offering a moon phase complication that is not only visually stunning but also exceptionally accurate,” said a spokesperson for H. Moser & Cie.
Historical Context and Market Impact
The announcement comes as the luxury watch market continues to evolve, with brands seeking to differentiate themselves through unique materials and complications. The use of meteorite in watchmaking is not entirely new, but Moser’s execution with the Streamliner Perpetual Moon stands out for its minimalist design and technical prowess.
According to industry experts, the integration of celestial materials like meteorite appeals to collectors who appreciate both the aesthetic and the narrative of owning a piece of the cosmos. This development follows a broader trend in the watch industry where brands are increasingly incorporating rare and exotic materials to captivate a discerning clientele.
Meanwhile, the Streamliner collection’s distinctive design ethos, rooted in the Streamliner Moderne period, continues to resonate with enthusiasts who value both historical inspiration and contemporary innovation. The move represents a strategic effort by Moser to solidify its position in the competitive luxury sports watch segment.
Looking Ahead
As Dubai Watch Week 2025 unfolds, the Streamliner Perpetual Moon Concept Meteorite is expected to draw significant attention from collectors and industry insiders alike. The unveiling not only highlights Moser’s creative ingenuity but also sets the stage for future innovations in the Streamliner collection.
Looking forward, H. Moser & Cie. is likely to continue exploring the intersection of art, science, and horology, pushing the boundaries of watch design and functionality. The Streamliner Perpetual Moon Concept Meteorite is more than just a timepiece; it is a celebration of precision, craftsmanship, and the timeless allure of the universe.
