Red Bull Racing’s decision to adopt a “bold” set-up strategy during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix qualifying has backfired, leaving Max Verstappen in a challenging position. Mekies emphasized that while the outcome was disappointing, taking risks is part of the sport’s nature. “It’s sometimes the price you pay when you take a risk; you cannot always go your way. It’s painful but it’s something we can learn from and improve,” he added.

The Dutch driver struggled with grip and balance throughout the session, which left him unable to push the car to its limits. “It was just bad. I couldn’t push at all,” Verstappen remarked. “The car was all over the place, sliding around a lot. I had to under-drive it a lot just to not have a moment. That of course doesn’t work in qualifying.”

“We first have to analyse what is going on. I don’t really understand how it can be this bad, so that’s more important for us to understand at the moment,” Verstappen added.
