Just weeks after the successful launch of its mid-range Grotto Series, premium audio brand MartinLogan has introduced the Depth 212 and Depth 215 subwoofers. These new models are making waves in the audio industry with their ability to extend bass frequencies to an impressive 18Hz, setting a new standard for home audio systems.

The announcement comes as MartinLogan continues to innovate in the high-end audio market. The Depth Series represents a comprehensive redesign of the company’s previous flagship BalancedForce subwoofers, integrating advanced technologies to enhance audio performance and user experience.

Innovative Design and Technology

Both the Depth 212 and Depth 215 models utilize MartinLogan’s renowned BalancedForce design, which features dual-opposed active drivers. The Depth 212 is equipped with 12-inch woofers, while the Depth 215 boasts 15-inch woofers. This configuration effectively cancels cabinet vibrations, ensuring that the bass remains tight and distortion-free, even under extreme load conditions.

Central to the performance of these subwoofers is the new Carbon Aerocore cone technology. This tri-layer composite, combining carbon fiber, PMI foam, and fiberglass, provides exceptional strength without adding unnecessary mass. This innovation is crucial for delivering the deep, resonant bass that audiophiles crave.

Power and Precision

The Depth Series is powered by reference-grade Class-D amplifiers, capable of delivering up to 4,400 watts of Dynamic Peak power in the Depth 215 model. This power is expertly managed by a proprietary 64-bit, 500MHz Vojtko DSP engine, which continuously monitors and adjusts the subwoofers’ performance to maintain optimal sound quality.

Additionally, the inclusion of Anthem Room Correction (ARC Genesis) technology ensures that the subwoofers adapt perfectly to any room, providing a tailored audio experience that accounts for the unique acoustics of each space.

Advanced Features and Market Position

Beyond its acoustic capabilities, the Depth Series offers several user-friendly features. These include lossless wireless connectivity, a touch-sensitive rear control interface, anti-vibration feet, and a convection-cooled concealed amplifier design that maintains a sleek, minimalist aesthetic.

Initially available in black, with more finishes expected in 2026, the Depth Series expands MartinLogan’s portfolio of precision subwoofers, complementing the more affordable Grotto range. The new models enter a competitive market dominated by established brands such as SVS, REL, and DAL.

The Depth 212 will retail for US$5,499 (A$8,299) and the Depth 215 for US$6,999 (A$10,499).

Industry Impact and Future Prospects

According to Allan Tarrant, Senior Vice President at MartinLogan, “We started from scratch to push bass performance to the next level. The Depth Series has exceeded our expectations in every way, from sound quality to craftsmanship.”

This development follows a trend in the audio industry where manufacturers are increasingly focusing on enhancing the low-frequency performance of their products. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and design, MartinLogan aims to capture the interest of discerning audiophiles who demand the highest quality sound reproduction.

As the Depth Series hits the market, it is expected to influence future designs and innovations in the subwoofer segment. Meanwhile, consumers can anticipate further advancements from MartinLogan as the brand continues to push the boundaries of audio technology.

With the introduction of the Depth 212 and Depth 215, MartinLogan not only strengthens its position in the high-end audio market but also sets a new benchmark for subwoofer performance. As more finishes become available and the technology evolves, the Depth Series is poised to become a staple in premium home audio systems worldwide.
