Seven’s popular cooking contest, My Kitchen Rules (MKR), once again dominated the television ratings last night, securing its place as the top entertainment program with an impressive 995,000 viewers in the National TV Audience. Meanwhile, Nine’s new dating show, The Golden Bachelor, experienced a slight dip in its second episode, drawing 700,000 viewers, down from its premiere of 749,000.

The announcement comes as MKR continues to captivate audiences with its blend of culinary competition and drama, eclipsing ABC’s 7:30, which attracted 849,000 viewers. Despite the decline in viewership for The Golden Bachelor, industry experts suggest the drop could have been more significant, considering the competitive landscape of television programming.

Television Ratings: A Closer Look

Following MKR and The Golden Bachelor, the evening’s entertainment lineup included I Was Actually There with 561,000 viewers and Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Gen, which drew 332,000 viewers. Later in the evening, Murder in a Small Town led with 414,000 viewers, followed by The Cheap Seats at 385,000, End Game with Tony Armstrong at 372,000, Bump at 246,000, and Tell Me What You Really Think at 130,000.

Seven News emerged as the overall winner with a commanding 1.29 million viewers, while Home & Away and The Chase secured 870,000 and 572,000 viewers, respectively. Ron Iddles: The Good Cop managed to attract 163,000 viewers.

Network Performances

Nine News was close behind with 1.27 million viewers, although the network celebrated wins for A Current Affair with 1.05 million viewers and Tipping Point with 713,000 viewers. Nine News Late drew 145,000 viewers.

ABC News attracted 980,000 viewers, with Hard Quiz drawing 344,000 viewers, David Attenborough’s Tasmania at 245,000 viewers, and QI with 153,000 viewers.

Network 10 reported 289,000 viewers for its news program, followed by Deal or No Deal with 270,000 viewers, FBI: Most Wanted at 161,000 viewers, and 10 News+ at 142,000 viewers.

SBS World News attracted 182,000 and 126,000 viewers for its broadcasts, while Great British Railway Journeys drew 150,000 viewers, Mastermind attracted 106,000 viewers, and The Hospital: In the Deep End pulled in 83,000 viewers.

Morning Show Ratings

In the morning show segment, Sunrise led with 398,000 viewers, followed by Today with 316,000 viewers, and News Breakfast with 259,000 viewers.

This development follows a broader trend in television where traditional viewing patterns are increasingly challenged by streaming services and digital platforms. However, the strong performance of MKR suggests that live, competitive reality shows still hold significant appeal for Australian audiences.

As networks continue to vie for viewers’ attention, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether The Golden Bachelor can regain its initial momentum or if MKR will maintain its lead in the ratings war. Industry analysts will be closely watching these dynamics, as they could influence future programming decisions and advertising strategies.
