Bunnings
Western Australia’s Bunnings stores are preparing to light up their barbecues for a cause that resonates deeply with the community. On Saturday, October 18, Bunnings outlets across the state will host an iconic sausage sizzle from 8 am to 4 pm, with all proceeds going directly to support Telethon, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of children.
The event is not just about sizzling sausages; it’s also about spreading positivity. As part of the fundraising initiative, stores will offer ‘Positivity Pegs’—colorful, handcrafted pegs made by children during recent D.I.Y. workshops. These will be available for a gold coin donation, adding a creative touch to the fundraising efforts.
“This weekend’s sausage sizzle is a great way for our team and customers to come together, enjoy a classic Bunnings snag, and make a real difference in the community,” stated Hayley Coulson, Bunnings General Manager of Store Operations. “Last year, WA stores raised and contributed $65,000 for the WA Telethon Weekend, and we’re thrilled to be getting behind the BBQ once again to do our bit for children and families across the State.”
Telethon: A Tradition of Generosity
The announcement comes as part of the annual Telethon weekend, scheduled for October 18-19, which will feature 26 hours of live entertainment broadcast on Channel 7 in WA, and nationally on 7flix and 7plus. The event is a staple in Western Australia, known for its heartwarming stories and the display of generosity from the community.
Since its inception in 1968, Telethon has raised over $400 million, channeling funds into medical research, equipment, and support programs for sick, vulnerable, and disadvantaged children. This year, the broadcast will once again highlight inspiring stories and special guests, underscoring the impact of community support.
The Community’s Role in Fundraising
West Australians are encouraged to participate not only by enjoying a sausage but also by donating at the register. Every dollar raised contributes to making a tangible difference in the lives of local children and their families. The collective effort of the community is what makes this event special, as seen in past years where public participation has been overwhelming.
The move represents a broader trend of community-driven fundraising initiatives that have become increasingly popular. Such events not only raise crucial funds but also foster a sense of unity and purpose among participants.
Telethon Family Festival: A Day of Fun and Support
Meanwhile, the Telethon Family Festival will take place on Sunday, October 19, transforming the streets around RAC Arena into a vibrant hub of activity. Wellington Street, stretching from RAC Arena to Yagan Square, will be bustling with free entertainment, food trucks, and family-friendly activities.
This festival is designed to engage families and individuals of all ages, offering a day of fun while reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting children’s welfare. The event provides a platform for people to come together, celebrate, and contribute to a meaningful cause.
The ongoing success of Telethon and associated events like the Bunnings sausage sizzle is a testament to the spirit of Western Australians. As these initiatives continue to grow, they not only provide immediate financial support but also inspire a culture of giving and compassion that benefits the entire community.
Looking ahead, the funds raised will continue to support groundbreaking research and essential services, ensuring that Western Australian children receive the care and support they need. The community’s involvement in these efforts is crucial, and events like the Bunnings sausage sizzle serve as a reminder of the power of collective action in driving positive change.
