Nova Entertainment has announced that its entire suite of digital radio stations is now available for streaming on Apple TV. This move follows the network’s earlier launch on Google and Android TVs, marking a significant expansion in Nova’s digital presence.

The stations are accessible on Apple TV through four distinct apps, each representing a different segment of Nova’s offerings: Smooth, Nova, Adelaide’s talkback station FiveAA, and Central Coast’s Star 104.5. Each app includes corresponding digital stations, such as Talk Sport on FiveAA, Nova Jamz under Nova, and Smooth Chill in Smooth.

Nova collaborated with Apple to ensure that the app design seamlessly integrates with the Apple TV interface. This development follows the April introduction of Nova’s streaming stations on Google TV and Android TV. According to Michelle Golding, Nova Entertainment’s director of digital strategy, capabilities, and data, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to reach listeners wherever they are throughout the day.

“It’s very much a lean-in by Nova to really expand on ways that our listeners and our audiences can reach Nova, in an environment that works for them,” Golding explains.

Strategic Expansion in Digital Streaming

Golding emphasizes that Nova’s strategy is focused on being present in a contextually relevant environment for its listeners. “If you take the life cycle of a listener throughout the day—from the commute to being at home—it’s about Nova being front of mind,” she says. The connected TV, often linked to the household’s best sound system, provides an ideal platform for high-fidelity audio streaming.

This strategic expansion into connected TV platforms is not just about increasing ownership of such devices but also about enhancing the listening experience beyond traditional video use. Golding notes that having Nova available alongside other popular apps on these devices is crucial.

Exploring New Platforms

With increased distribution being a priority, Nova is exploring opportunities to place its apps within other ecosystems. Although Golding did not provide specifics on future deals, she hinted that platforms like Samsung connected TVs could be logical next steps.

“We are exploring,” she states. “I think for us, it’s making sure that [it’s] where we can get the amplification. We’re definitely innovating and evolving what we do and how Nova and also the wider Nova brands, are across platforms where listeners want to listen.”

The move to Apple TV represents a significant step in Nova’s ongoing efforts to innovate and evolve in the digital space. As the landscape of media consumption continues to shift, Nova is positioning itself to remain at the forefront by adapting to new technologies and listener habits.

Future Prospects and Industry Impact

The expansion of Nova’s digital radio stations to Apple TV underscores a growing trend in the media industry where traditional broadcasters are increasingly leveraging digital platforms to reach wider audiences. This trend is driven by the proliferation of connected devices and the changing habits of media consumers who demand flexibility and accessibility.

As Nova continues to explore new platforms and technologies, the company aims to deepen its engagement with listeners by providing content that is both accessible and relevant. The ongoing evolution of Nova’s digital strategy reflects broader changes in the industry, where the lines between traditional broadcasting and digital streaming continue to blur.

Looking ahead, Nova’s commitment to innovation and adaptation will likely influence other broadcasters to follow suit, as the demand for digital content continues to grow. The company’s efforts to integrate seamlessly with various digital ecosystems highlight the importance of staying agile in an ever-changing media landscape.

For listeners, this means more ways to enjoy their favorite Nova stations, whether at home or on the go, ensuring that Nova remains a staple in their daily media consumption.
