According to police, the alleged incident began when Bennett entered a business in Maroochydore around 10:30 PM. He is accused of threatening a woman in her 30s with a firearm, sexually assaulting her on the premises, and then forcing her into her vehicle.

The police were alerted to the situation after receiving a “concerning” triple-0 call from the business, according to Sunshine Coast District Detective Inspector Chris Toohey. “We then alerted all resources throughout Brisbane to track this person,” Inspector Toohey stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The man allegedly drove the woman south to Brisbane before returning to the Sunshine Coast. Police efforts to locate the vehicle were successful, and officers tracked it to a park on Syd Lingard Drive in Buderim. Bennett was arrested at approximately 2 AM on Friday.

The victim was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for medical treatment and has since been discharged. Detective Inspector Toohey emphasized the importance of ongoing support for the victim, stating, “The victim is going to need a lot of support in the coming days and weeks.”

There was no application for bail, and Bennett was remanded in custody. The court has adjourned the matter until November 24, when it will be revisited.
