A Tasmanian company specializing in infrastructure protection from lightning strikes has been awarded the prestigious title of 2025 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year. Lightning Protection International (LPI) received the top honor at the 31st Tasmanian Export Awards ceremony held in Hobart.

The Huntingfield-based manufacturer, known for its innovative lightning protection, surge protection, and earthing systems, has expanded its reach to over 100 countries since its inception in 2002. This recognition highlights the company’s significant contribution to the global market and its role in promoting Tasmanian exports.

Celebrating Tasmania’s Export Excellence

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, emphasized the importance of the awards in showcasing Tasmania’s thriving export sector. “We know that our export sector is thriving with goods and service exports reaching $6.16 billion for 2023-24,” Barnett stated.

The awards highlight the diverse range of exporting capabilities in Tasmania, recognizing industries across various sectors such as creative arts, technology, advanced manufacturing, and food and beverages. LPI also secured the Manufacturing and Advanced Materials category award, sponsored by the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council.

Innovative Leadership and Global Reach

LPI’s commitment to scientific innovation and quality has established it as a globally respected name in lightning protection over the past two decades. The company’s success story is a testament to the potential of Tasmanian businesses on the international stage.

This year’s awards attracted 56 submissions across 11 categories, showcasing the breadth of talent and innovation present in the region. Among the winners were Geoneon in the Technologies category, Tasman Sea Salt in Agribusiness, Food and Beverage, and Three Warriors in Small Business.

Notable Achievements and Future Prospects

National celebrity Sonia Kruger added a touch of glamour to the event by calling Three Warriors founder Corbin Halliday on speakerphone to congratulate him on his company’s achievement in the tanning product industry. Other notable winners included ship manufacturer Incat, which won the Sustainability and Green Economy award, and Pasture.io, which received the Professional Services award.

Additionally, Tasmanian Seaweed Fertilisers was recognized as the Emerging Exporter, and Scootboot took home the e-Commerce award. Archipelago Productions, the creative force behind the hit TV show “Bay of Fires,” won the Creative Industries award, while Hai Loong Seafood was named Regional Exporter.

Looking Ahead: National Recognition

All category winners will represent Tasmania at the national Export Awards in Canberra this November. This opportunity provides a platform for these companies to gain further recognition and expand their reach beyond state borders.

Minister Barnett expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Helping more Tasmanian companies to export and share our high-quality products and services with the rest of the world will strengthen our economy and create more job opportunities for Tasmanians.”

The success of Lightning Protection International and other award winners underscores the dynamic and innovative nature of Tasmania’s export industry, setting a benchmark for future growth and development.
