In a move that blends classic automotive elegance with modern sustainability, comedian Jimmy Carr has taken delivery of his newly electrified Aston Martin DB6. The transformation was carried out by Electrogenic, a British specialist in converting iconic classic cars from gas to electric power, based in Oxfordshire.

The Aston Martin DB6, a symbol of British automotive heritage, now boasts an electric range of 150 miles and supports charging at 100 kW. This conversion represents a growing trend where vintage car enthusiasts seek to preserve the charm of classic vehicles while embracing environmentally friendly technology.

Electrogenic’s Expertise in Classic Car Conversions

Electrogenic has established itself as a leader in the niche market of electrifying classic cars. The company has previously worked on a range of prestigious vehicles, including a classic Mini Cooper, a DeLorean DMC-12, a Jaguar XKE, and a 1920s Rolls-Royce Phantom II owned by Hollywood actor Jason Momoa.

For Carr’s DB6, Electrogenic used proprietary hardware and software to install a battery pack and a 160 kW (200 bhp) motor, replacing the traditional six-cylinder engine. Although the electrified DB6 has slightly less power and torque than the original, it offers a 0-60 mph time of 6.5 seconds. For those desiring more power, Electrogenic provides an upgrade to a 210 kW (280 bhp) motor, delivering 450 Nm of torque and a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds.

The Technical Marvel of Electrification

The conversion process is not only about performance but also about maintaining the integrity of the original vehicle. Electrogenic ensures that the car’s structure remains untouched, making the process fully reversible. This attention to detail allows classic car owners to enjoy modern technology without sacrificing the vehicle’s historical value.

The electrified DB6 includes features such as CCS charging technology, allowing for fast charging, and an on-board 6.6 kW AC charger for home use. The car offers drive modes like Eco and Sport, and the regenerative braking system can be adjusted to suit driver preferences.

“We were delighted to be asked to convert Jimmy Carr’s cherished Aston Martin DB6 from petrol to state-of-the-art electric power. Electrogenic’s conversion gives effortless and reliable performance to match its stunning looks, and we’re extremely proud of the results,” said Steve Drummond, Chief Executive of Electrogenic.

Preserving Heritage While Embracing the Future

While the conversion removes the classic engine and exhaust soundtrack, it promises increased reliability and ease of maintenance. Drummond emphasized that the conversion aligns with the original character of the car, offering a familiar yet hassle-free driving experience.

Electrogenic’s approach reflects a broader trend in the automotive world, where sustainability and preservation go hand in hand. By providing a reversible conversion, the company allows car enthusiasts to enjoy the best of both worlds—classic aesthetics and modern efficiency.

Carr’s electrified Aston Martin DB6 will be showcased at the Salon Privé concours and car show at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, until August 31. This event offers a platform for showcasing innovations in the automotive industry, blending tradition with cutting-edge technology.

As the automotive landscape evolves, the work of companies like Electrogenic highlights a path forward for classic car owners who wish to participate in the green revolution without losing the essence of their beloved vehicles.
