
One of the Sunshine Coast’s most recognized royal enthusiasts and dedicated community volunteers, June Upton, has passed away at the age of 84. Known for her unwavering commitment to charity and her fondness for the British royal family, Mrs. Upton left an indelible mark on her community.
Mrs. Upton, a mother of six daughters, died peacefully on Saturday, August 30, surrounded by her family. Her daughter, Kylie Upton, expressed the family’s deep appreciation for her mother’s life and legacy. “Our mother, June Upton, was a strong, inspirational guiding light for many. She gave so much to us, the many charities she served, and the community,” she said.
A Life of Service and Devotion
June Upton’s life was characterized by her dedication to service. Her commitment to various charities and community projects made her a beloved figure on the Sunshine Coast. Her influence extended beyond her immediate family, touching countless lives through her work and her example of selflessness.
Her daughter Kylie reflected, “Her commitment to being of service was exemplary, and we have endless love and gratitude for the boundless force she was. Mum touched many lives who will carry the blessings of her grace, heart, and humor always. She mastered staying soft and strong in the world simultaneously.”
Passion for the Royals
Mrs. Upton’s heartfelt devotion to the British royal family was well-known. She was often sought by local media to share her insights and admiration for Queen Elizabeth II. Her fascination with the monarch began at a young age, as she recounted in a previous interview with Sunshine Coast News.
“I was born in Nambour and my mother had a cafe,” Ms. Upton said. “She had a tiny little radio, and when I was only very young – I think it was my first year at school – I remember when Princess Elizabeth was talking on the radio and I turned around to my mother and said, ‘Mum, have you heard this beautiful lady talking?'”
Mrs. Upton’s admiration for the Queen was lifelong, and she cherished a brooch from Buckingham Palace as a keepsake of her affection for the royal family.
A Legacy Celebrated
A service to celebrate Mrs. Upton’s life was held at Gregson and Weight in Buderim at 9:30 am today. Her daughter Kylie offered a poignant farewell, “Travel peacefully Mum. We will honor and remember you for the great work you did on Earth for so many but especially for us, your six daughters. We are your lasting legacy, and we love and thank you.”
