Bentley, a brand synonymous with luxury and performance, continues to uphold its reputation with the 2026 Flying Spur sedan. Known as the most exclusive model in Bentley’s lineup, the Flying Spur starts at just under $500,000, making it the most expensive Bentley available in base specification. Despite its price, the Flying Spur remains a rare sight on Australian roads, with only 10 units sold by the end of November last year, compared to 58 sales each of the Continental coupe/convertible and Bentayga SUV.

The 2026 model year brings significant changes to the Flying Spur lineup. The V6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions have been discontinued, and the iconic W12 engine is no longer available. Instead, Bentley now offers the Flying Spur exclusively with V8 PHEV drivetrains. Despite tightening emissions laws, Bentley assures that the V8, with its electric assistance, will continue to roar into the next decade.

Pricing and Customization

The standard V8 Hybrid now serves as the entry point for the Flying Spur range, with Bentley discontinuing the V6 PHEV for the 2026 model year. However, the base price is just the beginning. Our test vehicle included $45,160 worth of options, such as 22-inch 10-spoke wheels, wellness seating, contrast stitching, and a panoramic sunroof, bringing the final drive-away price closer to $650,000.

Customization plays a significant role in the Flying Spur’s appeal. Bentley’s Mulliner department allows buyers to personalize their vehicle down to the finest details, even supplying their own materials to the factory in Crewe, England. The interior of our test vehicle featured duo-tone Linen and Imperial Blue Nappa leather, which complements the car’s elegant design.

Interior Luxury and Technology

The Flying Spur’s interior is a testament to Bentley’s commitment to luxury. The cabin features a vast selection of standard finishes, including various leather choices, wood, and carbon fibre inlays. The attention to detail is evident in elements like the knurled metal air vent controls and the Bentley-branded analogue clock.

Both front seats offer extensive adjustability, including electric adjustment for the headrest, thigh support, and side bolsters. The steering column is also power-adjustable, ensuring optimal ergonomics. The seats come with heating and ventilation functions that automatically adjust to occupant body temperature, along with a ‘postural control system’ for massage functions.

However, the technology suite in the Flying Spur is less impressive. While the twin 12.3-inch displays have improved integration and resolution, they lack the functionality seen in other luxury vehicles. Despite this, the blend of traditional-style gauges and modern driver assists in the digital instrument display maintains a sense of elegance.

Performance and Driving Experience

Under the hood, the 2026 Flying Spur features a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain available in two states of tune: ‘High Performance’ and ‘Ultra Performance.’ The base model produces 500kW and 930Nm, slightly less than the Ultra Performance variant. The standard Flying Spur accelerates from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, offering a balance of power and efficiency.

The V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain provides up to 80km of electric travel, perfect for city driving, while still delivering the exhilarating performance expected from a Bentley. The Flying Spur’s handling is aided by all-wheel steering and a sophisticated all-wheel drive system, although its size can pose challenges in urban environments.

Safety and Features

The Flying Spur is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including front, side, and curtain airbags, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with lane assist, and a surround-view camera. Despite not being crash-tested by ANCAP or Euro NCAP, the Flying Spur’s safety credentials are robust.

Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, full LED matrix headlamps, Nappa leather upholstery, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle also features a hands-free power tailgate, power-closing doors, and a heated steering wheel.

Conclusion: A Luxurious All-Rounder

While the price tag of over $500,000 may seem steep, the Bentley Flying Spur offers a unique blend of luxury, performance, and practicality. Its stunning design, powerful hybrid drivetrain, and opulent interior make it a standout choice in the luxury sedan market.

Alternatives like the Porsche Panamera and Rolls-Royce Ghost each have their strengths, but the Flying Spur’s combination of features and refinement positions it as an ideal all-rounder for those fortunate enough to consider such a purchase.
